I'm reaching a point of annoyance with my raiding guild. On one hand they geared me up really fast with Naxx loot (the pieces that nobody else wanted). Now that I am decently geared though, there are the "best in slot" type drops that I'm looking to get - and I never get them as a shadowpriest. I have to compete against Mages, so the only pieces I get are scraps that nobody else wants - which was fine for a while, but now I'm hitting a plateau. My dps won't increase unless I get the better equipment, but someone else always wants the better equipment, so I'm effectively locked out.

So should I continue raiding, now that almost every slot is Naxx gear (anywhere from 2nd best in slot to 8th best in slot by theorycraft numbers), or do I quit and go back to the casual guild to complete all the achievements I've missed out on? I've tried to be friendly with the guild, but nobody ever wants to run heroics it seems, and nobody has any interest in helping each other out unless there's something in it for them. So we have great raid turnout, but past raiding if you're not part of the guild's inner circle, you're a nobody. So if I continue raiding, I can look forward to not getting any meaningful upgrades, and once Ulduar comes out I know I won't be getting the loot from it, it will go to the chosen ones first.

If I stopped raiding, I could respec again to a healing spec, or just focus on another character as the main.

One thing I do to help point out some decent gear is to hit up wowhead's gear thingy. I did a setup for you as a BM Hunter:

Wowhead Item Listing

Just note that this does weight items based on hit being rather damn good, but you gotta remember that you don't need much hit and it can be really easy to overcap. I know I've ignored some of their suggestions before because they simply listed way too many +hit things that I don't need. You also have to be careful as they may list items with spellpower simply because they have a lot of hit and junk like that. I know that sometimes I put Defense == 0 when looking on my Death Knight.

But from looking at this, you have similar suggestions as my Shaman... what I can see, you will want to go for...

Cloak: Embrace of Sorrow -- Maiden of Grief (N)
Chest: Argent Crusade Exalted
Feet: Argent Crusade Exalted
Finger: Titanium Impact Band -- Jewelcrafting
Finger: Ring of Scarlet Shadows -- Jewelcrafting
Hands: Rusted-Link Spiked Gauntlets -- Naxxramas (BoE drop)
Head: Plunderer's Helmet -- Ingvar (H) or Headguard of Westrift -- Eregos (N)
Legs: Giantmaim Legguards -- Leatherworking or Leggings of the Stone Halls -- Sjonnir the Ironshaper (H)
Neck: Titanium Impact choker -- Jewelcrafting
Shoulders: Massive Spaulders of the Jormungar -- Gortok Palehoof (H) or Spaulders of the Black Arrow -- Knights of the Ebon Blade Revered
Waist: Sovereign's Belt -- King Ymiron (H)
Wrist: Eaglebane Bracers -- Leatherworking

When you mention the boots, are u talking about the leather ones?

they arnt doing 5200 on sarth unless they are doing it with zero drakes and get super lucky with flame waves, 5200 sp DPS HAS to come from patch and then its well higher then average

On our 3 drakes I hit 6k easy :)

Gotta do what you have more fun with. Chances are raiding will become tedious and boring, so you really ought to enjoy your raidmates.

Also, if you want to do healing... grab some healing gear that no one wants from Naxx too while you're at it. Nothing wrong with throwing in some alt action either. You can spend some badges on gear for the alts.

Do you guys think the pendant of the outcast hero is good for a BM hunter for now since i can't afford the impact choker? Or should i save my emblems to get something else. Armor penetration and the red socket don't seem to be that big of an upperhand to pay that much.

Our sp do pretty damn good because they dot all drakes and sarth at the same time and aoe... usually break 5k.

not on my sever....logged in a short time ago :)

as for achievements i haven't really been focusing on them to be honest (2.3kish points), although I've been trying to do the elders....just have to do a few dungeons and finish up Northrend and I should have the festival achievement =) Also did strat (ugh I not only went back to SM for the key but also killed Balnazzar and went for baron; sadly no mount).

Soloing the old instances is fun. :) I went to BRS yesterday and was surprised that I could solo entire packs of mobs at once as a shadowpriest (I would pull 6-7 and just mind-flay, popping a shield beforehand). Since they only had about 6k hp they would all die within one complete casting of mind flay. Pretty fun times. I still have not soloed Onyxia, although I've been meaning to (free 50g? Sure!)

Started playing two months ago, my first character, 73 Warrior.

The game is extremely fun, but I really don't enjoy instances. I know I'm missing the cool parts of the game but after trying various dungeons with groups of varying competency (some good, some terribad), I can't stand to do them anymore. Even when we're doing well with a solid group of guild members, I'm just waiting for it to end. I feel like I'm alone in this.

I like doing for the cool bosses and the artwork. Plus the better than average gear you get from them and strategy that is involved. Quests are so tediouss.....especially the ones where you have to collect drops...

yep, was surprised at how little health the old world elites have compared to what it felt back then. when I walked through strat for the elder I just keep popping seed while moving down the streets and that did most of the work for me.

I don't know enough about hunters to tell you yes or no on that. But, here's my take on badges. You can keep holding out for the next best thing but eventually you're probably going to replace it with something better from a raid anyway (assuming you raid). However, thanks to BoA items, you may just consider holding on to all of your badges and gearing up strictly in dungeons/raids (other than maybe buying the T7.5 or PvP gear).

Personally I love instances. If you're new to MMORPG's they may seem a bit strange, but pre-WoW in MMORPG's you would share the dungeon with any other players that wanted to farm the dungeon at the time, and it lead to all sorts of anti-social type behavior. Kill Steals, camp stealing, all these things arose since the set of monsters would have a bunch of groups all competing for the kill. Since particular areas would spawn rare's, what would happen is that a group would get to that area of the dungeon, and just stay there for several hours trying to repeatedly clear all the monsters for the rare spawn to pop up.

WoW in comparison seems more epic, as you have the whole dungeon to yourself, you don't have to wait for that boss mob to spawn; it's just there from the get-go.

3.1 Classes Changes, Blue Post
Patch 3.1 Classes Changes to be announced fairly soon

It looks like Blizzard plans to make some parts of the upcoming patch 3.1 very soon. It probably means that we'll see it on PTRs in February, very soon? Only time will tell.

Quote from: Ghostcrawler (Source)
We are going to be announcing some of our plans for classes in 3.1 fairly soon. The announcements will be prominent. They will not be comprehensive. We are not going to announce every change we are going to make. We are going to risk giving you some insight into a work in progress, even though we may ultimately decide not to make some of the changes. You guys can help me remind other players of that when they get angry because we didn't deliver a change that they were "promised."Blue posts

Quote from Blizzard staff
Melee DPS Boost
As far as melee dps goes, we think rogues, cats and Arms warriors are all a little low. We haven't announced specific changes yet but they are coming. (Source)

SOTA - Faction Coin Toss
In its original implementation, Strand of the Ancients had an internal coin toss that determined which faction would start on defense. Issues arose during the initial testing whenever Alliance started on defense, so we took out the coin toss temporarily. We understand that starting on defense every match can have its disadvantages, and we intend to implement the coin toss in an upcoming patch. (Source)

Low matchmaking rating
It is likely that is due to your opposing team also having a low matchmaking (hidden) rating and a higher team rating, perhaps after a team reset.

Imagine this, the players in both team A and B are 1200 rated players. The teams are then reset to 1500 team rating and both teams queue up against each other. The situation we then have is the following:Team A: 1200 matchmaking rating and 1500 team rating.Team B: 1200 matchmaking rating and 1500 team rating.

Lets say that you face this same team 50 times in a row with a 50% win rate. The end result of this is that both teams will end up with around 1200 team rating. Why? Because this is the same situation as described in the previous post happening to both teams at once.

In short, both teams are in reality 1200 rated teams due to matchmaking rating, and going 50/50 with an equally ranked team will ensure that both teams' team rating tries to match the respective matchmaking (hidden) ratings.[...] The biggest difference from before is that the new system "remembers/knows" what level of skill/rating you belong in and will push your team rating towards this level while matching you up against equally rated teams - even in a 50/50 win/loss situation.
Recalling from previous seasons, a complaint we saw from players was that high rated players were resetting their rating and stomping lower rated or new players in the lower brackets on their way back up. This system aims to alleviate that problem and should match players more correctly against other teams around the same skill/rating level.  (Source)

[US] PvP Free Character Moves - 02.03.09
We are now offering free character moves from select high population PvP realms. These moves are scheduled to end Tuesday, February 10, at 8:00 PM PST provided our transfer goals are not reached prior to this time. We recommend to anyone who wishes to use the free character move system to do so at your earliest convenience. You can begin your free move by visiting the Character Move page located here: https://www.worldofwarcraft.co...nt/character-move.html

PvE free character moves coming soon.
Source Realms: Arthas, Black Dragonflight, Bleeding Hollow, Bonechewer, Boulderfist, Burning Blade, Burning Legion, Dark Iron, Deathwing, Destromath, Dragonmaw, Dunemaul, Firetree, Frostmane, Illidan, Kel'Thuzad, Laughing Skull, Lightning's Blade, Magtheridon, Mal'Ganis, Mannoroth, Sargeras, Scilla, Shattered Hand, Skullcrusher, Stormreaver, Tichondrius, WildHammerDestination Realms: Anub'arak, Balnazzar, Darrowmere, Lethon, Ysondre, Zuluhed

Death Knight (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Bug - Ebon Plague not stackable
This is the right solution. However, as I said the last time this question was asked, our priority right now is making sure more DKs spec Frost or Blood, not how to reward groups that bring multiple Unholy DKs. We do recognize it is annoying though and we'll get it fixed. (Source)

Hunter (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Cunning/Ferocious Pet Tree and PvE/PvP disparities
The Ferocious pets were intended predominantly for PvE use. We figured a pet with a stun would not be very popular in a raid encounter compared to a pet that just did more damage. (It is possible in a 5-player dungeon that the stun might come in handy).

Since "Ravage" has traditionally been a stun, it made sense to put them in the Cunning tree.We are willing to make changes to make the Cunning tree more viable for PvP and other situations. Frankly, most of the community feedback on hunters has been on their shot damage or on which pet provides the highest dps boost in a raid setting. More feedback on hunter pet families and their talent trees would be useful. Too often, though, this discussions wander off topic into the role of the pet or the hunter in general.Ideally we'd like to see nearly every Ferocious pet and the occasional Cunning pet feel like they were valid choices for PvE and nearly every Cunning pet and the occasional Tenacity pet feel like they were valid choices in PvP. Our priority lately has been on the hunter trees themselves though. (Source)

Mage (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Status Report on Mages (Source)
? 1) We like that Arcane is starting to feel like a viable alternative to FFB in PvE.
? 2) We think Arcane has too much burst potential in PvP. We want to fix it without undoing the progress we've made on #1, or sending all Arena mages to Frost.
? 3) We agree that the Scorch debuff is too much of a unique snowflake.
? 4) This is definitely a concern, but lower priority than these other issues.
? 5) Definitely a concern. We would love to get the "Shatter combo" vibe in PvE, but we haven't figured out a way to do it yet that doesn't involve buffing Cone of Cold, which would be bad for PvP reasons.

Priest (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)Shadow PvP Changes
We have some PvP-oriented changes in mind for Shadow. We hope to be able to announce them soon. (Source)

Shaman (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Shamans survavibility in PvP
Apologies in advance for the brief answers. On survivability, part of the problem is that some classes just do too much damage in PvP right now.
But we are looking at Enhancement and Elemental shamans in PvP for 3.1. We hope to be able to announce more details soon.We don't want to inflate the bonuses for Mail, but it's possible health in general is low for Shamans. That has come up a couple of times. (Source)

Woohoo! Our guild just did 2 drake Sarth last night for the first time, and we got some other fun achievements in Naxx as well such as Heigan's safety dance. Was a really good night for me; I ended up winning 2 T7.5 pieces (which were both best-in-slot for shadowpriests) and a nice wrist piece as well. At times I mentioned how the guild didn't seem that friendly towards me since I'm new (only been with them for a month) but in terms of competency they are good. Teamwork is tight and people listen to the guildleader, so on fights which require a lot of execution we do well. I guess the powergamer in me just can't let go of all that really good loot. My dps was sucking again last night though, 3200 dps on 2 drake Sarth and only ended up 10th place in overall dps.

I find some elitist type attitudes in the shadowpriest community forums where they basically refuse to heal and it annoys me. A lot of shadowpriests don't even bother putting up vampiric embrace, even though it's zero mana now, simply because it kills a cooldown cycle in which they could be applying more dps. I don't mind popping out of shadowform and doing a quick group heal and PoM, then going back to shadow if a fight is going rough, but this gets me scoffed at by other shadowpriests. I guess it's my attitude of being a healer first, and then only recently switching over to shadow. Unfortunately the occasional spot healing, which keeps group members alive, pushes me down on the dps meter.

Congrats on Sarth 2D. I really don't get some guilds. My guild's policy is very simple. We want you to play whatever it is that you want to play. Occasionally, we express in raid chat that in order to do something we need someone to fulfill a role like an extra tank or whatever. That doesn't happen often though and there is usually at least one person willing to lend a hand with that problem. However, our philosophy is that each raider is raiding because they want to have fun playing the class and spec of their choice. They will also put forth their best effort if they are fulfilling the role of their choice because that is what they want to do rather than what they are being told to do. One can argue this as much as they want but the fact is that it has worked well for my guild for years now.

While it doesn't compare to you guys just finishing off the uber-raider achievements, I managed to complete 3 wings of Naxx in a group full of win on Monday :)

On the down side, they were using webdkp and while the per-fight dkp grants were generous, I was outbid on all 4 items I bid on. By the same priest. No loot for me.
