Probably coming back to the game starting out fresh, what servers do people recommend nowadays?

well DKs are worse off then wars but yea its annoying, without spending a point in our really shitty -threat talent i can out TPS any tank, even prot palys, the thing is palys start with something stupid like 50k instant threat and i cant close that gap

its pretty funny doing 6k DPS and also doing 7k TPS

Really? DKs have a decent amount of unmitigated damage depending on spec. Although Rune Strike, which is up fairly often as a tank, is normal physical damage which probably doesn't help. But Scourge Strike is Shadow so it ignores armor .

DKs generate less TPS then any other tanking class, that is what i was refering to, not unmitagated attacks

I agree with what Chim just posted, i actually denied a paly app to my guild the other day because "you took a turning tide over a DPS class" the fact that 1/2 his gear was blues didnt help much either but that was the reason i posted.

MarkW - most servers are basicially the same, just pick a med-higher pop one

low pop sucks

Well, it seems the period of time where I could PUG with people who don't suck is over. The list of friends I'd grown in heroics now shows 80% of the people in Naxx every night I'm on, with their guilds.

My choices seem now to be:
? Continue PUGs with dwindling success rates, since the better players have moved on to Naxx with their guilds. With raid lockouts, people don't want to PUG Naxx for fear of ending up with a less-than-favorable or out-of-sync lockout. I understand why lockouts are good; but a single lockout for the entirety of Naxx isn't good.
? Suck it up and find a guild with a late night raiding schedule. Would probably involve xferring servers. Meh.
? Stop progressing. Play the achievements game. Meh.

I'd really like to see lockouts reworked to give people a little more flexibility, especially on places the size of Naxx.

Now, my luck isn't as bad as yours as I have best in slot for everything (cept tanking weapon.. no Last Laughs AT ALL since November). But seeing other scrubs that I remember were in badge epics and whatnot in BC running around with my gear on makes me emo beyond belief. The only thing I have over them is a stupid title.

I want my hardcore shit back and I want it now.

Should be more apparent with Ulduar.

Never had any problems with threat on them. I guess they could just up the threat granted from Frost Presence if it's really a problem (although that's more of a band-aid fix than anything).

What if the DPS actually didn't want it or already had it?

I actually kind of understand the sentiments there. There's almost this idea that you enjoyed your accomplishments and now it gets stepped on by others. Like I remember when I originally did MC and BWL and back in the day, it was much harder because of the lack of gear ( just imagine doing it all in Strat/Scholo/DM/BRS gear ) as ZG didn't come out until later. It felt pretty good to do it all when most people were still "LFG BRD Emp Run!"

Heh, my brother transferred off the server onto one of the free ones... Drak'thul I think. I told him I had no desire to leave Alleria because I wasn't going to stick with some hokey server that had horribly high AH prices, almost no PUGs and generally was just a worse experience. I waited out and now Alleria has no queues and is generally fine.

My PUG experience has generally been alright. I have met some people that are just really bad and should go leave negative feedback because the owner didn't provide a guide on how to play . The usual group I get tends to be decent though... not the best players ever, but competent enough to complete the dungeon with minimal issues.

One of the problems I have is getting people to do the achievements. Half the time, achievements actually make the boss fights harder, which is more fun. We would've had Less-rabi last night on my Shaman, but I hit an attack right as he started transforming and I couldn't shock in time. I realized afterward that we would've been fine if I had Windshock on my bar (Windshock isn't on the GCD unlike all other shocks), but no Shaman worth his salt wastes his shock cooldown on Windshock, which is why it's never touched my bar. But yeah. I've had a tough time getting some groups to do the second Skadi achievement (beat him in 3 minutes) as they just cannot seem to grasp the idea of how to do it. Last night I tried to explain it a couple times and every time they just kept failing. How hard is it to get 5 harpoons, run back to reset the event, quickly run back to the harpoons, have one person go up to aggro skadi and then shoot the harpoons when he's in range! It's so fricken easy >_<.

Consumption Junction has probably been one of the harder ones to set up properly, but once you get the setup down, it's really easy to do. I kind of wish the fight required that to begin with rather than just being able to spank the tank the entire time. I almost had Split Personality this weekend, but the idiots kept attacking the one while I was switching between to keep the damage equalized. I'm pretty sure we had the first split done within the five seconds, but the last one was definitely not.

I'm running autobar and bartender also. I've updated AB (because I know from experience that disabling it allowed vehicles to work).

Maybe the source of the conflict is with bartender and disabling AB allows it to work normally.

A lot of people have complained about the AB mount thing, but from what I gathered skimming notes while looking for comments about vehicle problems, he said there is a problem with the blizz api that prevents him from adding a sorting menu in it.

Also have to remember that folks can get 4/5 pieces of T7.5 gear without stepping foot in Naxx. Lottery boss can drop three of the five and saving valor badges from doing OS and Vault could get you your T7.5 legs in a few months.

Naxx also drops a ton of loot. Going in a clearing a couple of wings will net a guild ~20 epics a week + tier tokens + valor badges.

EDIT: It may go without saying, but do a bit of research to make sure the faction you choose is well represented on even a high pop server. I used to play on a high pop pVE server with a 5:1 A:H imbalance, and as Horde it was the worst of both worlds. The queues and overfarmed zones of a high pop server with the crummy economy and scarce groups of a low pop server.

I have to say coming from a low pop server (agamaggan) and transferring to a high pop (mannoroth) I was very wary. Back on Ag it was damn near impossible to get a pug up even for a reg instance let along a heroic or a raid (in BC). On Mann I can do nothing but jump from group to group all day or find a good pug and do a bunch of runs in a row. The AH prices I really don't see that much diff, on the low pop less people there to use the mats, but less to farm it. We did roll a few toons on high pop servers just to check prices and saw for the most part prices seem pretty constant aside from an occasional item. I do have to say typically there is much more in the AH on the high pop which is nice. The one bitch I do have about high pop vs low is on quests where you have to farm kill or find stuff you may have to scrap it and come back later or just sit and wait on respawns which sucks, but overall high pop is the way to go.

But you know... thinking about it... I think half of those achievements should really be built into the fights. In other words, I think half of the fights are just too damned easy and I can understand what people were talking about during beta and even live with screw ups having little to no consequence.

A couple things I noticed. Sartharian's Walls of Lava should deal around 20k on hit, which is enough to kill most players (but probably not a tank if he happens to get hit, which doesn't usually happen from what I know). I mean, I'm not perfect and I got hit by one once ( okay okay, twice ), but now I have absolutely no problem watching for myself. Of course, I probably would've been fine, but it seems BigWigs is really, really buggy. It's off on almost all Naxxramas fights and it will say that a lava wall is coming but it doesn't come until 5 seconds later. I don't know why it does this as other players seem to have accurate timers (but I don't know which add-on they're using).

But anyway... I also think Heigan's green goo of doom should deal more damage and have a slowing effect. I had never done this fight before the other day and in only a few tries (people seem to fail really hardcore at this fight), I noticed an easy way to figure out where to go. The only times I got hit were during floor phases when the tank didn't move far enough (so all melee were still in the last section). But I mean, if I really wanted to, I could use Anti-Magic Shell and dance in the damn green goo of doom and not even care.

It's almost like the execution to the fight barely has to be proper and you can pull a kill off with little effort. Someone was talking to me about their times in BWL this past weekend with a group of about five people and it reminded me how these fights actually required a proper setup or you would easily die. I can't even recall how many times it took for us to find our "perfect spot" to tank Chromaggus (down by the notch rooms where you tank Ebonroc as Chromaggus is about as big as two of the rooms) to make Time Stop and all the other abilities easier to manage.

I use the Curse manager thing and it auto-updates my add-ons. I thought that was a paid feature, but I haven't paid any monies and it works for me.

Have you also tried deleting your WTF files for Autobar and bartender and starting over fresh?

Also, one thing I tried to do was create a new category and just assign two mounts ( flying and land ) to it. I think I could probably do it if I created a macro though ( I saw an interesting macro on MMOC that would use a specific mount depending on where you were and the rules for said place ). But I don't need a sort as much as an ignore. I just want to ignore all my mounts but two (this isn't a big deal for my DK... he only has three mounts). The largest problem is with my characters that have a slow flying and fast flying mount as the gryphon icons look the same.

I think my Shaman is my highest with 1565. I think I might try and pound out quite a few achievements on my Death Knight as he's 1215 right now... which sadly puts him ahead of my Rogue (who has a ton of old world achievements) who is at 1210.

I haven't been threat capped (which was always an issue in vanilla and BC) once in WOTLK, even with subpar tanks. I guess it's harder with classes who do 6k DPS with no aggro dumps.

Ahh yes, you must not be playing an Enhancement Shaman ;). No threat dump, a poor active threat reduction (Wind Shock) and a poor passive threat reduction (Spirit Weapons -- only affects physical). I can easily pass a tank if I'm not paying attention to my threat.

On my shadowpriest I got rid of the threat reduction talent, since all of the raiding shadowpriests and the guys on EJ forums said it's useless, and now I am finding myself getting aggro again LOL. I am having the hardest time hitting those high dps numbers that I see other shadowpriests getting. Yesterday on a PUG Sarth run I only hit 3200 dps (via recount). Granted that was second highest on the dps meter but I still feel like I'm somehow messing up my timing when I see these priests on shadowpriest.com getting 5200 dps parses on WWS.

Another week with no Sarth 3D kill.

It's good to see progress though. DPS is on the ball, healing really picked up last night (to the point where I didn't notice twilight torment), and the pally tank is managing the adds much, much better. All in all, we're learning how to control the fight instead of trying to zerg through it.

We've had Shadron down multiple times, but something goes wrong and we wipe with only Vesperon left. People ease up and eat a flame wall, something silly like that.

Did get a best-in-slot caster cloak when we called it and did it with two drakes up. Trying again tonight, I think we'll get it.

they arnt doing 5200 on sarth unless they are doing it with zero drakes and get super lucky with flame waves, 5200 sp DPS HAS to come from patch and then its well higher then average

Naxxramas Optimization Changes

Quote from: Crygil (Source)In our continuing effort to improve the gameplay experience for our players, we?ve recently made optimizations, specifically to Naxxramas performance, based on feedback from players. With these changes, we are carefully monitoring server performance to gauge the change?s success. In addition to that, we would very much like to hear our players' personal experience in Naxxramas this week. We are asking players to post your feedback in terms of what if any changes in performance you?ve noticed in Naxxramas. Please make sure to include the realm you play on and the time frame you were participating in Naxxramas.

Quote from Blizzard staffRaid Bug - Circle of Healing / Wild Growth prevented by Vortex
We identified a bug preventing Circle of Healing and Wild Growth from being able to find targets in Vortex. It was not our intent that these heals be prevented during Vortex (beyond the nerf we already made to prevent them from being spammed).

We should be able to fix this in the next couple of days. (Source)

Raid and UI Design - Disappearance of groups in raids
Our long-term goal is to get rid of the notion of groups within a raid. We want players to be able to organize their UI however they want -- by class, by role, alphabetically or whatever. With the overhaul to the buff / debuff system we made a lot of progress towards this goal, but that left us with a few awkward reasons to still put certain players together.

From a high-level, the design is to be in a group. That group can have 5, 10 or 25 max players depending on the content. There shouldn't be a (weird) notion of being in both a 5 player and 25 player group at the same time. Imagine for a 25-player raid that the UI just shows 25 players. (Source)

Bigger isn't always better!
Sure. My point was that the dude who takes the most damage is not the best tank. The best tank is the person who takes the least damage while still locking the mobs onto them quickly and thoroughly. Standing in the fire is not the sign of a good tank. Ignoring your Shield Block or Barkskin is not the sign of a good tank.

A healer who heals mostly themselves, overheals a lot, runs out of mana, needs to borrow candles, forgets to cleanse and lets the tank die is not a good healer, even if they have the highest number.

The damage-dealer who tops the chart, but pulls aggro, stands in the fire, breaks CC (lolwut?), and argues with all of your strategies is probably not the guy you want in your raid.

But all other things being equal, higher numbers in damage and healing are still better and do have a strong correlation to player gear and skill. (Source)

Mana Pool
The problem is that there should not be infinite mana classes currently in the game. You should not run OOM every single fight (if you play well). But you should not be able to ignore it either.

For what it's worth, Resto shamans are often listed as the healer that can run out of mana. Paladins, priests and druids should ideally play a lot more like that. They do seem to run OOM in PvP, but not really in PvE. (Source)

[US] Free Character Moves
Free character moves to Scilla are now closed. Free moves to Winterhoof will be closing today at 5:00 p.m. PST. (Source)

Druid (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Starfall purpose
The purpose of Starfall is to do extra damage. What I mean by that is that the spell is not channeled so you can use it along with a Hurricane or whatever other spell you want to cast. It was never intended to be a de-stealther and we've become unenamored with random stun chances added to other spells.

One criticism which we think is totally valid is the paltry coefficient on Starfall. We will be hotfixing in a more reasonable number soon (tm). (Source)

Hunter (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Talent Trees and playstyle
The key is playstyle. It is easiest to explain with the death knight. The blood tree emphasizes melee combat and healing. The frost tree emphasizes frost damage and control. The unholy tree emphasizes diseases and minions.

To do the same thing with hunters, you'd say that BM emphasizes the pet, MM emphasizes the shots, and SV emphasizes the traps. That's a gross generalization, but you get the idea. If you like to manage your pet, you might like BM. If you want to spend less effort running the pet in and out of combat and want traps to be a smaller part of your game, then you might look at MM, understanding that it probably means more emphasis on your ranged attacks.

But you could PvP (or in the case of the death knight, tank) with any tree as long as you maximized your focus on that role with the specific talents you chose. The trees themselves become more like flavor: do you like Frost, Fire or Arcane spells?

Again, this all assumes that the relative dps, pvp utility, tanking or healing are all equitable, which is something we are trying to improve. (Source)

Paladin (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Warlock survavibility in PvP against paladins
We are okay (for now) with exposing yourself to CC if you use certain abilities. However, the glyph of Turn Evil turning that spell into an instant cast is probably a problem and something we are likely to fix. (Source)

Priest (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Shadow and PvP
We have some PvP-oriented changes in mind for Shadow. We hope to be able to announce them soon. (Source)

Guardian Spirit not procing properly the 50% heal
Update: the problem does seem to be related to a second hit killing the target before the GS heal can actually kick in. We should be hotfixing in a solution soon. (Source)

Warlock (Skills List / Talent + Glyph Calc.)
Bug - Spirit/Spellpower portion of Fel Armor not working properly with Demonic Pact
It is a bug. The intent is that the Spirit benefit is similar to the other buffs mentioned (and that none of them stack). (Source)

Warlock survavibility in PvP against paladins
We are okay (for now) with exposing yourself to CC if you use certain abilities. However, the glyph of Turn Evil turning that spell into an instant cast is probably a problem and something we are likely to fix. (Source)

Got 6 Min Maylgos done last night. Didn't realize Malygos can eat sparks FROM HIS ASS :/ We made the kill with 10 seconds on the timer. For those attempting it.. if you don't get him past 50% before the second Vortex.. wipe. The time he spends doing the vortex ruins the attempt regardless of how much burn time you get on him.

So yeah.. now I need to do 8 man Maylgos for my drake.. I'm starting to fucking hate this dragon :/
