I leveled my DK from 80-85 as Frost based on EJ recommendation (speed increase + diseaseless Frost Strike spam). However as an 85 with some TH quested gear plus some rep rewards, I find Unholy so much funner to farm/run around doing everything (dungeons/battlegrounds/etc). I did not try Unholy while leveling though so I'm not sure how it's going to be.

I started (at 80) as DW frost and enjoyed it even in crappy gear. By the time I got to Deepholm at 83 I noticed that mobs were really beating the crap out of me and I was having to death strike and sac my ghoul often to heal up after fights--and somewhere along the line I got fed up with "accidentally" pulling more than 2 mobs and dying.

I tried out blood at that point to "learn" it so I could tank when I wanted and it was awesome...never made it back to frost. I found out my dps was a little lower as blood but that difference was more than made up for by the ability to pull every mob in immediate proximity and end with full health.

Blood is phenominal for questing/soloing group quests. At 85 there were a couple times I tried out DW frost again (albeit with crappy 1 handers) and the difference in survivability is astonishing. I do enjoy frost but so far with my gear I do alot better as blood.

Yup Survial was somewhat over powered I guess, though there were other classes that were still beating them out on the DPS charts. Shamans are lighting up the DPS charts in all the runs I’m on. I’ve actually been running as Beast master for our five man content runs and doing okay.

I was going to switch to Survival but heard about the damage reduction for them and the damage increase for Beast Master and decided to see how I would do in 10 man content. We did the raid boss over in Tol Barad, who’s name I can’t remember at the moment, and on the DPS log that our Raid leader posted I hit a little over 11K on one attempt and did 9991 DPS on another. I had to laugh at the 9991, I mean seriously I couldn’t squeak out 9 more DPS to get an even 10K?

That fight is all about the fire phase and getting people to move correctly. If your DPS can average 10K you will beat the 5 minute enrage timer on this guy. Well that and having the tanks swap agro.

On a GREAT note for me I got Ghost Crawler last night. I was really disappointed that his name changes to “Sprit Beast” when you tame him though. He’s going to bring some extra DPS to my five man groups that’s for sure.

It’s funny because I had camped him forever with no luck, then one night I’m in the area where he spawns to pick some herbs for flasks and he spawns right in front of me. I dismissed my shale spider pet and started to tame GC without setting a trap. OUCH that guy hits hard and took me down to half health before I finished and thats 50 K

Yup. Pretty much you really can't go wrong with a DK, just pick the playstyle you like the most and you won't be wrong :)

I was Blood (DPS) leveling 70-80 and then dual-specced Blood (tank)/Unholy throughout LK (tried DW Frost for a few days but didn't like it much and went back to 2H-Blood tanking), so after leveling 2H-Frost 80-85 I've basically tried them all. The DK is definitely the toon I had most fun with, no matter the spec.

ZA/ZG BACK!!

http://forum.wowtaiwan.com.tw/twow_forums_page3.asp?topic_id=122041&forum_id=2&GoPage=1&lis

Yes, you guys. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm first major patch of the R & D progress has been nearly completed! We are ready to put some put the original version of the updated test server. So you may ask: What is 4.1 test server? (You will say, right?) Okay, let me tell you!

Gurubashi tribes returning

Originally released in 1.7 update 20 Zul'Gurub instance will once again open the door to a whole new story, new fighting, and improved items!Zul'Gurub is now a level 85 heroic dungeon. To help Cataclysm instances to provide more advanced content, players can find level 353 epic items. Entrance to the heroic instance is limited to players with an average item level of 346.

The Return of Zul'Aman

The level 70 favorite instance Zul'Aman, returns as a level 85 5-man instance. Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub will appear in the dungeon and heroic dungeon search options, providing item level 353 epic items. Entrance to the heroic instance is limited to players with an average item level of 346.

As Zul'Aman returns, you may feel curious whether you can once again get a rare mount. We are pleased to announce the new version of the rare raptor, tiger and bear mounts will be able to be obtained, while the older mounts will still retain their uniqueness. We will disclose more in the future as to how these mounts are obtained.

Awesome! in another few months we'll be back to what everyone hated in WotLK. The recent heroic nerfs eliminated the need for any CC in heroics, less if I've got 3 stacks of the LFG buff and have over 200k unbuffed hp and pull more than 12k dps as a tank. I also feel that raiding is still too easy each week my guild, whose been raiding for less than a month, has added 2 boss kills per week we're currently 6/12 and we managed to kill 4 of those 6 in less than an hour on Tuesday, We will take a little time getting the other 2 done this weekend followed by probably 2 'progression' kills if history continues to repeat itself. I guess I'm used to and remember fondly the months of wiping on vael and the month(s) of attempts it took to kill the final bosses(rag/nef/kt,C'thun etc) in most any raid instance... Not having groups wipe them out and move on to 'heroic' modes after a few weeks. At this point the only thing holding my guild back is lack of good players, most of the encounters aren't difficult at all as long as people can pay attention to whats going on around them. Oh well, I guess it's back to welfare epics for those that can't play well...

That said, maybe they'll add a nice dk tank wep since I can't seem to get the mace to drop off magmaw. And some decent tank trinkets would rock too, so far all the trinkets are pretty lackluster.

atch 4.1 on PTR - Zul'aman and Zul'gurub are back!

Patch 4.1 is hitting the PTRs and is full of surprises!
Official Notes (Translated from the Taiwanese website)I'll just keep the intro and redirect you to the funny datamining for the class changes, if we have anyone fluent in taiwanese feel free to translate the source entirely.

So you may ask: What will be there in 4.1 Test Realms (I believe you will do so right?)? So, here it comes!
Remnants of the Gurubashi Tribe
Originally released in Patch 1.7, the classic 20-man raid Zul'Gurub will open its gate once again, bringing new stories, new encounters and fully refined items! Zul'Gurub is now a level-85 Heroic 5-man dungeon, to help the Cataclysm dungeons provide a higher tier of contents. Players may find level 353 epic items in this Heroic dungeon. You have to meet a mininum average item level of 346 to enter it.

The Return of Zul'Aman
The fan-favorite level 70 10-man raid Zul'Aman is also reborn as a level-85 Heroic 5-man dungeon. Zul'Aman and Zul'Gurub will both appear in the Heroic Dungeon list in the LFD tool, providing level 353 epic loot. You also have to meet a mininum average item level of 346 to enter.

Since Zul'Aman is back, you might be curious on whether the rare mounts will be back? Yes, we're proud to annouce that new rare-drop Raptor, Tiger and Warbear mount will be available, while the old mounts still have their unique beauty in hand. We will share a lot more on obtaining the new mounts.

Class Design
Though we only hope to do a small mount of balance changes in Patch 4.1, you can still expect multiple updates. The following are the ones we currently can share with you. Keep in mind these changes do not reflect all changes in Patch 4.1, and are not promised to be in the early Test Realm updates.
First we want to balance the area attack potentials between different damage dealing talents, you can expect changes regarding this one in the testing phase.
Inner Rage is now trainable at level 56. Originally it was given to solve the rage overflow problems, but it's not an issue to Warriors these days.
We have implemented Warriors a new level 83 ability: Rallying Cry.
Colossus Smash now ignores 70% of target's armor, down from 100%. We'll buff the damage of other Fury and Arms damage dealing abilities to compensate that.
Word of Glory: We hope Retribution and Protection Paladins occasionaly do the right healing to others, but as we know Paladins sometimes feel that Holy Power is only for the healing. We rather like these specs use more Holy Power on damage abilities, and occasionally heal.
More to Come

We are still developing more features, updating balace changes and fix bugs for Patch 4.1. We will update the Test Realms in the upcoming days and weeks, and bring you more information on this.

Zul'aman and Zul'gurub are back!
Tons of changes indicate that Zul'aman and Zul'gurub are back as 5-man instances! I couldn't find anything about the Abyssal Maw dungeon mentioned briefly during Blizzcon for the moment, but Firelands seems there too.

< sits in amazed and stunned silence at the prospect that Arms Warriors might actually be *buffed* and get a nice Raid~Beneficial Cooldown >

< Almost afraid to be happy, since (NOT ME, NONONO) :sneaky: dropped his second Protection spec for Arms, since the last patch made 2 Prot specs kind of pointless >

My Shadow Priest alt is pissed off, BTW...

• Aspect of the Hawk now increases ranged attack power by 2000, up from 637.

I doing 11K on some Raid Boss fights as a Beast Master and still shamans are doing more, Heck DK tanks often keep up with my DPS. This will help make BM a better raiding spec and put some hunters other than survival back in the game.

It’s going to make switching out of Hawk so we can gain focus while moving a tougher decision but I’ll take the minor hit to mobility gladly in this case.

I'm pretty sure the aspect change affects all hunters and not just BM. Unless they changed it. The way they have been screwing with hunters every few days...I wouldn't doubt it. The patch notes do reflect that it is BM hunters. Hopefully that is a mistake.

Hard to say because they have been talking about bringing down the DPS of Survival Hunters. Though I agree this would be a VERY odd way to do it.

Well one thing that is holding true is Hunter DPS has been scaling well with gear.

So that extra Attack power is going to come in handy because two of my 359 Purples are getting a nerf.

Leatherworking:
Corded Viper Belt now gives +233 Agility, down from 253. Now gives 159 Critical Strike rating, down from 169. Now gives 159 Mastery rating, down from 169. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)

Dragonkiller Tunic now gives +231 Agility, down from 341. Now gives 249 Haste rating, down from 259. Now gives 163 Mastery rating, down from 173. Now has a Red Socket (Socket Bonus: +10 Agility)

Between the two pieces that’s a drop of
130 AGI (Net loss of 30 AGI if both items are gemmed with +40 AGI gems)
10 Crit Strike
20 Mastery
10 Haste

There are going to be some 346 Blue items that will be better than these Purples now :(

I got a chance to run BoT for the first time last night... ended up killing all of the bosses, although I kind of want to watch all of the videos for them so I get a better idea of what I should be doing :p.

zero cooldown stealth for talented Sub rogues. Yummy.

I've always loved rogue PVP, but the huge downtime between destroying an opponent and re-entering stealth has always been a bad thing that I can sometimes make up with Shadowmeld. Now, I won't have nearly so much of a problem! :D

C'mon, Ratboy... I expected more from you after seeing such an awkward change like that ;). If you look at the tool tip rather than reading the text, you'll see that it was a typo and the chestpiece is actually being reduced to 321 not 231 :p.

The way I looked at it, you lose 20 agility per item, but you also gain 50 (assuming you use a 40 agility gem). So, you gain 30 net agility. So, overall a bonus of 60 agility vs 10 crit, 20 mastery and 10 haste. Using my Enh Shaman EP values (that I generated last night), I get...

60 * 2.48 vs (10 * .73) + (20 * 1.13) + (10 * .08)
148.8 vs 30.7

That makes it a pretty darn decent boost for me!

But you know what the problem is now? There's absolutely no point in having that chest past 4.1, because you can then buy the T11 chest, gloves and pants for Justice Points. The Shaman T11 chestpiece, while not the best ever, is actually still better than that crafted piece (even ignoring the set bonus possibility):

It has more mastery, which makes it better and it provides more agility considering gem options (381 (+20 hit) vs 371)

I doing 11K on some Raid Boss fights as a Beast Master and still shamans are doing more, Heck DK tanks often keep up with my DPS. This will help make BM a better raiding spec and put some hunters other than survival back in the game.

Maybe you're just not as geared as you need to be. My Shaman pulled 18.5k in BH-10 with 2 faction and 2 crafted epics as well as a 333 trinket (the rest being 346).

Shamans are doing crazy good damage, that’s for sure. As for gear yes I could be better geared, I have four 359 Pieces and the rest is mostly 346 with perhaps 1 333 piece. Last I looked my I Level was around 348 I think. I can’t remember my WoW heroes score.

I’ve seen my DPS scale as I’ve upgraded gear, I think I was doing about 6k DPS when I started running Cata five man normal so the jump to 11K on a 10 man boss was nice. I’m generally seeing right around 9.5 to 10K in five man heroic pugs on average though I don’t usually have time to (Or forget to) check the individual boss fight damage.

One thing I don’t have to pad my average numbers on trash anymore is effective and sustainable AOE DPS. That’s why I’m looking mostly at individual Boss fights when I can. Gone are the days I could sit and channel Volley and watch my numbers climb through the roof. Explosive trap + 2 or 3 multi shots and I’m back to using Cobra for focus regen. Actually I don’t mind the loss of sustainable AOE for hunters and prefer the CC and single target DPS that we are pretty much locked into.

I’ve started pugging more five man heroics lately as there have been so many nerfs that more people are doing them and the queue time has come down, still I had a 35 minute wait time last night. And talking about NERF OMG did they nerf the Lady NasJar fight or what? A blind mole rat and a pack of flees could do that fight now. Generally in these Heroic Pugs the best DPS in the groups are running 14 K but usually by the end of the run the average is around 11.

As far as the Corded Viper belt and Dragonkiller Tunic I’m glad that ended up being a typo, and as you point out makes those pieces substantially better for hunters. I can’t see gemming them with anything less than two 40 AGI gems.

Looking at a couple Valor items, probably pants first and the back piece looks nice, should have one or the other this weekend.

And I’m still going to check out Survival as a raiding spec but want to see what nerfs they put in for it first. I’ve just gotten pretty comfortable with Beast Master and people do tend to like the various buffs I can bring depending on my pet. Ancient Hysteria from one corehound, Lava breath from another, the nice buff from the shale spider, and some decent DPS boost from my spirit beast.

Beast Master.

I know survival is “THE” spec for raiding. Look at the top 100 hunters on ANY server and they are all Survival. I was planning to activate and run with my Survival spec but there are nerfs on the way for that spec as well as promised Buffs for Beast Master. Still I think I’ll head over to Elitist Jerks and see how my Survival spec stacks up against their recommendations. If I can squeak out a few thousand more DPS with the same gear it will be worth it, and I’ll deal with the nerfs when they arrive.

Good changes for arms warriors. Our damage will take a slight hit, but the hamstring change is HUGE. Though, warriors still have the worst snare in the game.

Hard to say because they have been talking about bringing down the DPS of Survival Hunters. Though I agree this would be a VERY odd way to do it.

Surv hunters already got a huge nerf. They aren't very good anymore. Most people switched to Marksman but then aimed shot got nerfed too. I don't know. I mothballed my hunter for now until they figure out what they want to do without changing things every few days.

Rogue pvp is not fun for me at all even though he's my main. Geared my shammy instead, which btw rogues have no chance in killing solo. I just feel that if you don't nuke your target down in 5-10 secs, you're done cause you are pretty much as squishy as a clothie, not to mention you always have to be in melee range and everybody and their dog has a slow. With health pools in pvp as they are and your energy regen being crucial, it's just a raw deal.
