so I'm at work and we're just testing out some servers out on some machines and testing out all the apps on win2k. Anyways it was running 2k adv server without any service packs. So I slipstreamed service pack 2 and proceeded to update the system. well it booted fine and all but then I check event viewer and the app. log is full of errors. Turns out all the extensible counters and sh!t can't be loaded. proceeded to look around the registry and everything looked fine but I also didn't want to look through the entire registry. So I run winmgmt /clearadap and try to clear out out any reset/clear registry entries that might be the cause of my problems. Nothing works and I've done numerous other things. So I said f@#$ it I've got a slipstreamed cd I'll try the recovery /repair option. Everything goes fine and the counters are again able to load, although some programs did need to be installed. Now here is the Problem the entire Distributed File System no longer works. I try to access it but it says "RPC server unavailable". Now the root DFS is stored on this setup. I'm almost sure the remote procedure call server is up and running fine. So I ping the loopback, ping by ip, ping by FQDN, ping by netbios name and all is fine. Go check the \root\system32\dns and check the host files. All is fine. So I'm thinking that once again win2k has got some crazy bug and I'll I'd like to do is basically get DFS to work again but how would I uninstall and reinstall just DFS. No option as I can see. F#@#$! MS crap. your help would be greatly appreciated. It isn't all that important since it's only a test machine but I'd like to be able to access, view and replicate these shares regardless.
