Everyone has different tolerances for alcohol, different drinks of preference and different places they like to drink. There is no doubt that if you've lost your job are living on the street and boozing it that you are an alcoholic but of course there are successful millionaire businessmen who are too so you can't tell by success or failure as capitalism measures it. When would you consider someone or yourself and alcoholic?

Depends on:

1. how often the person drinks
2. how much is consumed
3. when does he/she drink; by himself/herself, or with others

Two "yes" responses indicate that the respondent should be investigated further. The questionnaire asks the following questions:

1. Have you ever felt you needed to Cut down on your drinking?
2. Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
3. Have you ever felt Guilty about drinking?
4. Have you ever felt you needed a drink first thing in the morning (Eye-opener) to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?

Would you say quantity and when it is consumed alone would be enough? What about someone who drinks large quantities and always alone but never lets it effect their carrier or those they care about. Is this person an alcoholic?

Lost of control, eg. drinking more than you intended to, or breaking a promise not to drink.. When you tell yourself; if I am going to get hung for stealing a chicken I might as well steal a horse.

"Large quantities" can be somewhat arbitrary, e.g. 5'2" 130 chick downing 3 beers or 6'5" 250 quaffing 10+ beers.

Better question is why they he/she is drinking by himself/herself. Drinking to get fucked up, and is something that happens frequently? Or just on occasion for a slight buzz.

Yeah, or once someone suggest going "Cow Tipping", it's a good indication he/she's drunk. However, it doesn't mean that the person is an alcoholic.
