At what point do you revolt?

What freedoms have to be taken away or attenuated so much they might as well? How much do you have to be taxed? How many injustices have to be committed? Is there a level of government hypocrisy and idiocy that would propel you to say, "I have had enough?"

Something I have been thinking about. We usually are witnesses to such things on TV in other countries where people band together and protest/fight for change. Perhaps the years/days/months to come are a said canvas for such a portrait...?

No real topic. No facts. No anything, except bait for a flame fest.

Thanks for trolling.

Sorry, no. If the content of my post points in that direction, then I would assume, based on many of the threads in this forum, most are high.

The gov't's actions helping to prevent the economy from falling into disarray after reckless decisions by private banks should be lauded and no reason for revolt if you're a thinking human with a pulse.

Honestly: When they try to take my guns. A ban on gun sales is not enough to me, but if they come around to collect... yep that would do it.

I don't think we'll see a large scale revolt in the United States in our life times. Hell, I don't think we'll even get as crazy as the Vietnam era protests. The older generations are past the age where revolt is possible (no one really thinks about an armed insurrection after 40), and the younger generation is so complacent and downright lazy that all we do is type angrily on messageboards and think, "Well, I've done my part." There is no group large enough, angry enough, motivated enough and active enough to actually band together in large enough numbers to revolt on a national scale.

As for me personally, I revolt when a dictatorship is imposed, and rights are stripped. But I don't see that happening. If the presidency of Bush couldn't prompt me to revolt, little will.

I think when political adversaries start getting popped I'll give a thought or two about it.

Hey now Atomic playboy done pissed me off when he says, " Hell, I don't think we'll even get as crazy as the Vietnam era protests."

2020 hindsight, those Vietnam era protesters were right and the government was wrong, sure there were a few anti war zanies, but the government had far more zanies. We just did not see how crazy those government zanies were at the time.

You think that hasn't happened before?

Any serious infringement (martial law, voiding of specific civil liberties, totally unjustified military action, etc), or any gradual slide when it goes to far (slipping to a theocracy, removal of too much individual rights, etc). It was DAMN close under Bushco. I had seriously consider it many times.

The US Government will forever exert just as much power that there won't be a revolt. The majority voting block will steal the max allowed before the minority will ever get to revolt status. Life is too good to risk dying even at 40% tax rates. People are too pussy these days.

That's because a 40% tax rate isn't that big of a deal. Now ban private firearms, or declare us a Christian nation with a state religion...then there'd be revolution inside of an hour.

50%, 60%? I wonder how much higher it can go before there is a real revolution.

Agree on your latter point, but nearly impossible to actually put in to place (knock on wood) let alone pass. Taxes are easy and affects people directly and instantly.
