It's usually no warmer than 15c for a few days before I begin increasing the Heat. Happens every Fall sometime, then in the Spring it gets lowered after a few days of 20c temps.

That's pretty hardcore. I thought I was unusual keeping the heat in the 50s :^D

I need to get some wood cut for my stove. I won't have enough for the winter, but it'll be nice on the colder days.

we have a couple of cords left over from last year, so we should be good.

kinda like it colder in the house. i think the most we got it to last year was 67-70 from the stove on a -6 night. luckily, the house maintains heat well.

thats what living at 9350ft alt gets you.

you have to love the cold and that mysterious white stuff.

and a big down comforter.

:)

Depends. We use an electric heater in the living room and bedroom. If it's cold, we turn it on. They are very inexpensive to run. It's 42 degrees outside right now and about 75 in here with the electric heater on. It's warmer in south AL than it is in Chicago, IL. Weird but true.

It's 44 degrees here (everyone knows degrees are more precise) and I have my heat on. Set at 66 in the house. It's only running a few times per hour for about 2 minutes or so.

What about you other homeowners...at what temp do you have to fire up the furnace?

if that was a jab at my thread, you failed miserably.
this thread also fails miserably because no one turns on their heat based on the outside temp.
it's regulated by the digital thermostat, or they base it on how cold if feels inside, not out.

I live in an apartment so as long as my neighbors under and to the side of me keep their heat on, my place stays warm too. I still haven't turned on my heat yet and it has been pretty cold here.

I have only south-facing windows in my apartment. Between that and a few PCs, I rarely need to specifically turn on the heat; pretty much just in the dead of winter when it's well below freezing. The highs here have been around 50F lately, and I've left my windows about halfway open during the day, just closing them at night.

Really sucks during the summer though, even with a/c. :(

i still have an analog (mercury switch/bi-metallic coil) thermostat

still works the same way, you drop below a certain temp and it kicks the furnace off.
that certain temp is based on INSIDE temperature, not outside.

you just lack the ability to program schedules.

my house is 65-72 year round, my thermostat takes care of the rest, so my heat comes on whenever my thermostat decides it's time.

I have a auto thermostat that is set to keep it not hotter than and no cooler than what I set for inside temps.

No clue how that relates to the outside specifically and don't really care as all that matters to me is comfort inside my home.

bingo.

on a side note, what is the temp of the air coming out of your vents?

I have no idea. It is pretty warm though...doesn't take more than a few minutes to warm up the house a couple degrees. Generally, I leave the heat off all night and only run it for about an hour in the morning.

I turn my heat on when the interior temperature is about 55, setting the thermostat to 58.

My house is very poorly insulated so by the time it actually gets to 58 downstairs it is at least 65 upstairs, which is where I spend most of my time. If I shut my bedroom door it can hit 70 in here. One time my friend slept over downstairs and he turned the thermostat to 60 so he would be comfortable. I woke up the next morning sweating because it was 79 degrees in my room.

I burn hookers to heat my house. It stays at a balmy sexty degrees.
