My kids were on it as soon as they could sit upright!! Of course I was there be a good Dad and monitor what they were doing, and the puter was in the kitchen so there was no hiding in their rooms. My son was assemling them by age 9, with me there to supervise. I like to look at as a second language they have learned. Younger kids are like sponges if you allow them freedom to experiment, and not freak out when they screw it up it can be turned into quality time together. Everytime they honk up their web pages or the operating system, we sit down together and troubleshoot and resolve it, it ends up being a learning experience for all. Never know the kid could become a whiz and then you can mooch off their riches!!!!!!

I think thee bigger question is how much should you monitor your kids with respect to their age while using the computer. Until they are 10-12 you need to keep track and supervise most of their computer related activity, and until they leave the house you should always keep track of what tehy are doing with it in a general way.

My parents never monitor me. At my house, we don't have one computer out in the open. They are all tucked away in rooms and such. Someone did tell my parents they should take MY computer into the living room, yea right!!!
