At what age (if ever) did you stop caring about being cool?

Stopped caring about being cool when I was about 17.

I have never stopped caring about dressing well and looking respectable.

Never really cared much, I'm just a cool dude by default, so didn't have to try to act it. :p

Seriously though I'd say after grade 9 it pretty much didn't matter anymore. 7/8 was the worse for that, if you didn't wear Nike or Adidas you were a loser and could get beat up.

The idea of having an appearance that was in some way fashionable never even occurred to me. I wouldn't go walking around looking like a 17th century farmer or something else that made some deliberate anti-fashion statement. But I definitely wasn't going for any kind of "look."

But I do tend to buy what I like and as odd as it might be, I think my tastes have gradually acquired something of a subculture vibe. I don't know if that's coincidence or if I just pay more attention now.

Can't stop if I didn't start to begin with. In the end, it doesn't even matter to me. ;)

I think I stopped caring about being cool right around the time I bought a pinball machine. Pinball machine = InstaCool™.

The vibe you're noticing is derision, dude. Nobody likes a mostly bald guy with a wispy man bun, OR droopy pants revealing Frozen themed boxers . . . especially when those pants are khaki Dockers! :colbert:

Ha. I don't really mind derision but that's not the impression I get. Cargo pants, t-shirt, ratty sneakers and black pig skin welding jacket. That's for winter.

I cut my hair just over a year ago. Very short. I was tired of dealing with a 1 foot pony tail that I had to keep in a bun just so it wouldn't get caught between my back and chair. Long hair is a pain in the a**. But now I miss it so I'm trying to grow it back in. It's almost scrunchy time. Another month or so I think.

I stopped caring about being cool around the time my daughter was born, around five years ago. I just didn't have time to worry about that shit.

Now that she's grown up a bit, I'm starting to care about my appearance a bit more. I ditched my Chevy Cruze econobox for a shiny new Ford Mustang, and I'm getting rid of some of my ratty clothes for newer stuff.

Probably shortly after I graduated college.

As far as self image goes, the older I get, the more I care about my appearance. And the more willing I am to experiment. Orange pants? Ok!

I stopped when I found out that I was actually a pretty cool guy. That took me until my late 20's. I got over those insecurities before then, and now in my 40's I have new ones. Full circle shit.

Looking and being respectable are two different things. Glad to see you are going for a "look".
