At what age does playing "goth" and other teenage affectations just become stupid?

I somewhat expect a teenager to go through the standard rebellion and self-exploration phases and to be somewhat confused. However, when I see someone in their 30s still dressing in all black and putting on Marilyn Manson mascara/warpaint it just looks pathetic. What age do you consider to be the cutoff for someone holding onto a "lifestyle" such as that ?

Not really, I just saw a woman in the store who was obviously in her early 40s, looking like one of the characters from The Addams Family and thought she looked idiotic.

my goth phase lasted from 14 - 17. I broke out of it during that summer between senior year of high school and freshman year of college.

I guess that does seem kind of sad. but who knows, maybe she is deliriously happy with her lifestyle.

Why is it a bad thing for an adult to be a goth? One of the best things about life is variety, people should be able to express themselves any way they want (short of public nudity)
