Long story short, I ordered phone service for my home in Dec. 2010... house was still under renovation, but I worked on and off from this house during that time. Didn't move in until 2011, and recently (November 2011) found that the phone line didn't work.

So I had paid a whole year for phone service that didn't work. I found out why it didn't work when the ATT tech came out and told me they never hooked up the wires to the outside telco box.

So I call ATT to get a credit for the year I paid during which the phone line didn't work, they refuse.

Granted, I should of found the problem sooner and contacted them. They say it's my fault for not informing them and there's nothing they can do except credit me one month.

It's one of those things where you really have to fight for it. It's gonna take going up the ladder to get it done too....If this was cheap $20 phone service, I would just let it be and take it as a learning experience.

You both are at fault; go up the ladder (as stated above) and split the difference

So you paid for a full year of phone service you didn't realize didn't work until you finally tried to use it in November? I'd credit you for a month too.

This... because had the phone actually worked and was plugged in, OP would have paid for the year that it was in operation even though the line was never used.

This. Because if you would have told them it wasn't working right away, they would have fixed it and been able to bill you for it. It's not entirely their fault.

Assuming they didn't charge you additional fees for this most recent installation I don't see how they're being unfair.

Well I got 7 months credit. Better than 1 month.

The original problem is that ATT never came out and hooked up the phone line at the telco box on the outside of the house.
