AT&T WIRELESS RIPPING THREAD

noproblems

What is their answer to the fact that I can't get reception for their service because AT&T doesn't have as many towers as the other cellular companies do**?

Well, Mr. Chump, AT&T would like to keep you as a customer. Therefore, we are prepared to offer you an additional 160 minutes per month for the next 3 months, beginning with your current bill.

GREAT! Now I get to get frustrated for an additional 160 minutes every month at no extra charge.

**A fact that they failed to mention when I signed up for the service

you shouldn't let them torture you like that. 😉

i've got AT&T, maybe i should threaten to cancel too, i could use some more minutes. 🙂

you bastards got it good compared to us SprintPCS users. We have to LOG INTO their web server to send and receive text messages. the problem is that their server NEVER RESPONDS. Even when I use my cable modem at home. Your phone tells you have a message waiting but you CAN'T check it.

My AT&T service is pretty sucky. Signal strength at my house is pretty crappy, and my phone broke about 2 months after receiving it. Stupid me didn't buy insurance on a BRAND NEW FRIJICKING PHONE so I had to wait 3 weeks while Sony Ericcson repaired it. 😛 I still haven't bought insurance, though. I should probably do that soon. 🙂

ups

i've actually switched over to ATT due to problems w/ tmobile. so far i'm extremely happy, but you never know..........

AT&T should have gone with CDMA 800, which they can overly on top of their TDMA 800 Mhz network. GSM 800 isn't out yet, so they tossed a bunch of GSM 1900 antennas on their existing towers. Well, folks, it's known that you need closer spacing of 1900 MHz cells than 800 Mhz cells due to the characteristics of radio waves at different frequencies, so they've still got a lot of work cut out for themselves optimizing their new GSM network. That work would include plenty of new cell sites, I'd imagine.

I won't even get into the disadvantages of the 3G upgrade path from GSM/GPRS to W-CDMA compared to the path from CDMA/CDMA2000 1x to 1xEV-DO. I'll just say that their choice of the GSM path instead of CDMA path as they upgrade their network from TDMA -- the old-school digital cellular system that sounds like crap and uses spectrum inefficiently -- seems expensive and illogical.
