In my years on anandtech I've seen numerous posts in the hot deals section about Sprint PCS and their stellar retention deals. I even convinced my dad and grandpa do pursue getting free upgrades through the retention department. The amount of deals they've gotten has been insane...like numerous free phones, unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited texts, unlimited nights/weekends, lowered nights/weekends to start at 7PM all while keeping their same rate and just renewing the contract for an additional year.

I'm with ATTWS as Sprint couldn't get signal to the main places that I am at. They recently sent me a letter advertising free additional 350 minutes anytime, unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited nights/weekends for signing another contract. Now this is good and all, but I'd really like to get new phones for my wife and I and see if they can lower their nights/weekends and/or give free texts.

Has anyone had an luck wheeling and dealing with the retention department of ATTWS by trying to 'cancel' their account? With the Sprint PCS deals, you had to specifically ask for the cancellation department.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Yup, i did it with my mom's account. They offered me a similar deal, but i told them that i was just going to cancel and go with Sprint b/c of a better deal. They then asked me what the deal was, and they matched it and offered to send me a free (but refurbished) phone. It was a newer model phone and there was nothing wrong with it, and if they hadn't of told me it was a refurb, i'd never be any wiser.

I was an ATTWS customer for 6 years and wanted to get the Motorola V60 phone that Verizon was advertising for $200 from ATT for the same price when they were $250. This was a nationwide promotion several years ago btw. When I went into the store and asked them, they said no. When I told them I would cancel my acct with them, they told me fine. So I called up CS and asked them the same thing. They also said no. When I told them to cancel, they said fine and didn't even refer me to their cancellation department.

It was absolutely ridiculous. Nice way to treat a long time customer huh? Needless to say, I went with VZ and haven't regretted it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll just have to give it a whirl and see what happens. Unfortunately I haven't had a lick of problems with their service and they still think I'm with a company that got a mad discount on their employees accounts.
