AT&T "vanity" or personalized cell phone number

I'm looking to get an iPhone (probably) and I'm trying to do my homework in advance. When activating an iPhone through iTunes, do you at least get a choice of a few different phone numbers? I don't want to get stuck with a crap number for 2-100 years. Even if I have to call AT&T and pay an additional fee, I would consider it to get a number that matches my spouse's cell number or our home or business numbers. Suggestions?

I'm 99% sure you do not get a choice of numbers when you activate a new line. You always could go in and activate a line in store and get a number you want, and then port that one over to the iPhone.

I work for corporate at a retail store. Never have I been able to personalize a number, we do get to pick from a list of available numbers so that is the best we can do. As far as personalization goes you might want to call customer care about that to see what they can do. I doubt you can go as far as a vanity type number like a company can (i.e the numeric combo matches a name/word)
