AT&T Next for upgrade?

So I'm going from my Lumia 920 to an iPhone 6 Plus this weekend... I called to find out the charges to upgrade. Apparently $300 up front, and $40 activation for each line. But then they said I'd lose a discount on my plan, and that if I went with AT&T Next, I'd save money somehow.

Anybody have any experience with this? I have a 10GB mobile share plan right now (I don't hit that, but regardless), so am curious as to what people's experiences are with this.

if you are not in a contract currently, the only money you need upfront is to pay sales tax(this may vary with your credit)

You pay the bring your own device cost for each line. so instead of the standard in contract price of $40/line, you pay only $15/line. I don't know where the $300 upfront is coming from unless it is related to being in contract with that phone you are looking to upgrade from (or possibly due to credit).

The 300 is the on contract price with a new 2 year contract, but your monthly line fee would go up to 40 from 15 you pay now, so the total cost over 24 months would be $900. Next is a better deal than the contract, if I remember correctly it is only $750 for the 6+

Very.

Essentially, you can either do a 2-year contract for a phone. Pay $xxx amount of dollars + activation fee + taxes, and your line fee then goes up to $40.

Or you can buy the phone with Next. Pay $xx per month until the device is paid off. Pay only $15 for your line.

Paying with Next is actually beneficial over paying the contracted price + $40 line fee.

Thanks -- any links on the web that show some use cases? I get scared to look at Next given all the negative press it's gotten over the last year or so.

Use this ATT link to calculate how much Next plans would cost vs. 2 year contract. I bookmarked that link as soon as I found it - they definitely hide it good
