Why is AT&T so dumb? They offer FTTP in my area...in fact that is the only way they connect to homes. I love their interface setup and their account setup and service switches are awesome. Yet their internet speeds are brutal...18/1.5? 4rlz? Over Fiber? Comcast has their blast at 50/10! I talk to a tech and they give the old line of "well, it's guaranteed speeds with us, with them its shared!"

I went to DSL reports and read about a speed boost coming...that was rumored almost 2 year ago and has yet to happen. If they had even semi-comparable speeds I would switch in a heartbeat away from Comcast...

Why AT&T? WHY? Just offer fiber speeds to those that have Fiber to the Home! 50/50 or 100/100...it doesnt have to be google fiber, just something competitive please!

You're absolutely sure it's FTTH? Because those look like their plain old copper VDSL speeds. I can't imagine why they wouldn't offer speeds more comparable to Comcast if everything was fiber up to the premises and they were able to.

Oh yeah. Checked out several of my neighbors hookups and DSL reports forums confirm...they actually are just starting to bump up FTTH/FTTP clients to 24/3. They are artificially making them slow as hell because it would be "unfair" to the copper clients. I have a fiber line 20 feet from my house in my backyard..it runs around and through the entire neighborhood. The box for the hookup is just the other side of my fence in my neighbors yard. It's just so stupid it makes me mad.

I have a choice... 6mb ATT, dialup, satellite.

I don't even mind the 6mb downstream but I wish the upstream was at least 1mb.

Those are my choices... But I'm also looking into a fourth choice: Moving.
Back in 2000 I did this, because I knew where I was in copper DSL had trouble getting half the marketed 1.5x256. So, I moved into a IFITL (Integrated Fiber In The Loop) neighborhood and got 1.5-1.8x256 sustained.

Unfortunately, that was back in 2000 and that fiber on my lawn is still at that speed while the cable operator upgraded three times and I'm paying for their slowest in my area and its +20Mbps x 4-5Mbps.

AT&T, only knows the reasoning for this kind of hate.

What is Comcasts monthly cap these days?

I know uverse is only at 250GB, which, if you stream a lot of 1080p movies ... won't last that long...

Been contemplating a change back to Comcast (I dropped their service when they first introduced monthly data caps, and since then everybody in the world has come up with some sort of limit.)

AFAIK Comcast has no limit around here, if I look at my account it says there's a 250gb cap but also says enforcement of the data limit is suspended, I don't know if I've ever gone over the limit though.

Comcast has suspended their caps indefinitely. They're testing out alternatives, such as scaling the cap based on speed in a few choice markets AFAIK.

Comcast removed it's usage cap. ...For now.

Honestly I don't have a problem with Comcast. I rarely have any outages or any service issues with them. Yes they are expensive, but the performance is better than anything else that's available around here.

Do you get Comcast or any other cable? Maybe AT&T wants you to switch. AT&T/Verizon are moving from land lines to wireless so they can charge $$$/gig of 4G data.

Ehh, maybe I'll give Comcast another go, 250gb is probably more than I'll use 90% of the time ... I just remember at the time they were talking about 100GB ... and that is very little

Yes...UVerse has a 250GB cap but it has never been enforced and no word on whether it ever will be due to current complications separating out the data streams since everything runs over the same line...or at least that's what I've read elsewhere.

You're bitching about 18 down and 1.5 up?

Do you need a ladder to get down from that horse?

I'm not sure you understand the meaning of that phrase.

And some of us live in places that have running water, electricity and actual cable providers.

BTW, for those that are asking, I currently have Comcast I was just looking to switch because U-verse is slightly cheaper TV programming wise and is much easier to deal with when changing services.

I remember when I had Uverse + TV... You turn on the TV box and the download speeds dropped.

You think that was bad, OP?

We are stuck with 6 Mb down/512 kb up naked DSL from ATT, nothing else (faster) available, and after the 1 year special is up, the price will be up to $35/month just because they can charge more.

Cable is not better or cheaper and no we don't live in BFE, decent size metro area with about 300K+ population.

Darn you, "Duo"pology power grip.

FYI, AT&T is leaving the DSL business. They will still keep the fiber/copper Uverse net, but they are junking their all copper net.
