I havent seen the service. Is this the one that charges .99 cents an hour after 150 hours?

All in all this service is ok. I just learned the annoying way that the ad bar doesn't get out of your way when playing Tribes 2.

pop, there it goes again

I just signed up with somebody else to tide me over til the DSL gets here again.

I used this for a couple months. It seemed to me, those little pop up ads on the right kept coming more and more. Really got annoying.

I signed some family up here:
GTCInernet

$9.95 no banners. To many people the extra $5 is worth no banners.

Oh also, no software either...just need to set up DUN and you are off any running.

I also had the need to call them and someone with a brain picked up the phone both times immediately.

Family says speed seems to be about normal and no busies.

Sounds the same as any of the other internet dial up services that have a banner EXCEPT THEY ARE FREE!!! The only people this is a hot deal for is AT&T!! AT&T is recovering their costs by putting ads on your screen, why should you pay, too?? Try blue light, net zero, or any of the other free services that use banners.

Another thing about the 4.95 plan is that they sell your information, as well as the fact that the phone support is not free.
I am on the AT&T $14.95(150 hrs/month) plan and I love it. AT&T has the the best speed out of all the other ISPs, combine that with quick logon time and 20mb free web space, and you've got a winner!...for me at least.

For some strange reason their service would never work properly in Houston (area code 713). You constantly get packet loss, wouldn't connect at other times and once connected would take anywhere from a minute to 2 minutes to complete the handshaking process.

We then tried getting the real deal (no banner) from AT&T and guess what? It worked flawlessly. Go figure.

Hi! I live in upstate NY. ARe there any of these free or cheap ISPs, can you get access any other way to these services. I think this needs to be discussed more, regardless of Hot Deals or forum listing, as deals are not heating up unless usable. Thanks for all previous directing! Psongman

With At&t you can simply hack the banner by creating a dialup
account and typing in the info from the At&t config file in
its subdirectory. Ive done this to two seperate Pc's and the last few months
and they are still running fine for 4.95/Month.

SpeedTester,
You may not want to talk about that here. After the Kodak 4800 scam the moderators are very touchy about any kind of cheating. I would suggest you remove the info in your post or put it on a webpage or something.

I found my userID in several files, but no passwords were found. AT&T must have fixed this loophole with the latest version of their installation software. I did see an encrypted sixteen digit password when I checked the registry, but I don't know how to decrypt it.

psongman: Try this out: Blue Frog.

$25/year for totally unlimited internet, newsgroups through newsguy(although newsguy sucks). They say that they'll send you a few surveys a month while you're on it, but I've been on for two months and no surveys have appeared yet. Also, free POP3 email for multiple family members free of charge, 5MB webspace, and quick CS through email. These guys are also actually faster than my former ISP, MSN. I'd highly recommend them. It's about as good as it gets considering I'm not eligible for broadband.

JeSpre - Thanks for that link, it actually looks like a great deal. I wouldn't mind taking a few surveys every month if it meant UNLIMITED 56k dial-up for only $2 per month!. Have you considered creating your own Hot Deals thread mentioning BlueFrogNet?

RossMAN: I would, but as far as I know, they're still limited in availablity. They used to be Upstate/Western NY only, but I know they've expanded since. Obviously it's an awesome deal for those that can get in on it. I didn't realize it was such a secret, though.

Edit: I just checked, they're only available in 315, 607, and 716 area codes. I'm in 716 and there are several numbers available to me. Like I said, if you're in one of these areas, you'll definitely want to check these guys out.

JeSpre - Ah I see, sorry I had assumed they were nationwide, bummer. For anyone interested here's their access numbers which only includes area codes 315, 607 and 716.
