I know how much a lot of you guys hate AT&T, but seriously, I couldn't ask for anything better right now...

Back in April, my wife and I were on the 550 minutes family plan with two lines. We were paying around $74 a month. I called in to cancel one of our lines because we just couldn't afford the second line, but the cancellation department just gave us three months of $20 credits to our account to help out "due to the economy" and that I should let them know after the next three months. I figured, sure, I'll go for that. It's about the same we'd be paying for one line anyways, so three months go by and I call again to cancel the second line...

BAM! Same thing... except this time the lady tells me that they have leeway in their department and she offered to put us on an old 450 minutes (most people we talk to are AT&T so we never use all our minutes) plan which was $15 cheaper a month PLUS we got to keep our 3,500 rollover minutes. She then offers us a $20 credit for the next 4 MONTHS, again "due to the economy".

Sooo... we've been paying about $35 for our two line family plan and I called today to cancel the second line again... and you guessed it! They are giving us 4 more months of $20 credits! Seriously, I could get used to these $35/month bills for our two lines.

CLIFFS:
-We used to pay ~$72/mo for our two lines
-Now we pay ~$35/mo because AT&T is awesome
-I'll keep trying to cancel my second line to see if I can keep getting these sweet deals.

No.

Edit:

I manage a medium sized account with AT&T and another with VZW. I have TONS of screw ups on my AT&T bill every month... Last month they charged every user .25/min on one random day.. So per person it was like $8 or so (i.e. very hard to catch) but add it up and we're talking a few hundred per month, 12 months per year, etc.

I also have issues with them 'dropping' international service.. A user that goes international all the time randomly had a $900 bill.

Lots of other random problems.. Music charges on a phone that was in my desk the entire month. Just tons of erroneous charges. I don't trust them at all.

They always fix it, but spending 6 hours a month checking and dealing with it all is getting annoying.

However, my ATT rep is awesome. My VZW rep accidentally copied me on email where he called me annoying (yes, I was being annoying because he wasn't doing his GD job)

I've got nothing against AT&T. With the family plan, the rates aren't too bad. And they're the only carrier which has good coverage everywhere. The only people who don't complain about coverage around here are people with AT&T.

They fucked me over with the billing, so now I dont like them.
Other than that I have no complaints. It seems to me the only people who should be whining about coverage are travelling businessmen. If they have coverage in your town you would get them. If they dont have coverage you wouldnt get them.
Its not like those towers are built on mobile platforms and they move them around throughout the day.

I can understand the billing aspect... I actually noticed a $4.99 charge on my account lat month. Apparently they decided for me that I wanted a tone-maker service. I was pretty pissed about that, but had it refunded immediately, but other than that, I can't complain, especially with such a low bill right now.

I live in a very dense area and constantly have service issues. VZW was much much better service-wise (Everywhere I go should be 3g full signal and I get plenty of 'random' voicemails where the phone didn't ring and other service problems)

Yes I report them using that stupid app, lol..

Hey man, i'm in the exact same situation as you. Are you on a contract or anything? My two line contract doesn't expire until October. Would they let me call in and cancel a line?

Although the sites are stationary, people aren't. ;)

There can be plenty of coverage gaps within a locale. Each operator propagates a little differently, and they don't all share the same towers.

Our 2 year contracts have been long over. We're just biding our time.

Makes sense. I'm sure I don't stand a chance then. I just want to bail and get on some pay as you go plan because then I'll bet my yearly fee will be about what my current monthly fee is.

I love AT&T Landline service---their techs and engineering are great and easy to work with. Their wireless service has good customer service, but the product just plain stinks.

I called to cancel my 2nd line and all they did was asking me several questions about features, I kept saying AT&T until they asked me "Name a carrier that begins with the letter V". Then it all became suddenly clear... I opted to keep the 2nd line and actually subscribed to 3 more. AT&T rox!!! :awe:

I cancelled my parent's line yesterday. It was $70/month for 500 minutes for 2 lines, which is a joke. Had to pay $180 in ETF, but they're going to save a hell of a lot more going prepaid.

My SO had an AT&T family plan with 3 phones (~$140/month), and it is possible to drop the extra lines without canceling the contract (you'll just have to be sure they do cancel as they promise, and call if they don't).

We no longer do contract plans, and for 2 T-mobile phones we spend ~$20/month now. Pre-paid FTMFW!

AT&T Wireless service was slightly cheaper and their staff was nice... but boy did that service stink. I couldn't get reception in a lot of places and when I could I sounded terrible and people complained about not being able to hear/understand me.

Verizon was expensive as heck, but their staff as nice to me and their service was great. Just super expensive.

Sprint has been very cheap (sero woo), their support leaves a lot to be desired (it sucks), and while their network isnt' as good as Verizon's but has been very servicable. I'm very happy with cheap though.
