AT&T DSL to U-Verse

FM2n

Senior member
Previously I had AT&T DSL and At&T Phone service, ran through a DSL filter that splits Phone line and DSL line.

I closed out my roomates account DSL and he kept phone service, and I started a new account to take advantage of the promo. Today the tech called me and he said he is working on the outside line to include phone and DSL through the same cord.

So given that it's coming in through the same jack, Do I still need to use the 2Wire DSL/Router that it came with, or can I still use my original Motorola DSL only modem? I hate the fact that it has a router integrated since I already have a DD-WRT netgear router I want to use.

I'll just have to play with it when I get home, but I was wondering if someone happened to know off the top of their head.

Most phone service has the capability for two lines. It's a 4-wire cord, with two Tip and Ring connections, one for each line.

It sounds like what the tech was doing, was splicing in the DSL line on one pair (from new company), and keeping the existing phone service on the original pair.

As far as what CPE you should use, I don't know, it depends on what the ISP requires.

I think you might be needing new hardware with this new service because they are upgrading everyone.
