AT&T Doubling Data Size for MSVP 15GB and up

Guess AT&T is feeling the heat.

I'm considering going up to the 15gb (30gb) plan myself as we have 7 phones on our current 10gb plan and the data overage charge is $15/1gb.

http://news.yahoo.com/t-doubles-data...200040327.html

Here’s a nice surprise for current and prospective AT&T customers that will brighten up your weekend: AT&T is offering a special limited-time promotion that will double the size of your data plan. Beginning Sunday, September 28th, and running through October 31st, Mobile Share Value plans with between 15GB and 50GB of data per month will see those data buckets double in size. This means that subscribers with accounts with two or more lines will have twice as much data each month without subscribers having to pay an additional penny.

This is how the promotional data plans break down:

This is a promo that families and big data users will undoubtedly appreciate, and it is available to new and existing AT&T subscribers alike. Of course, if you’re a current customer with a plan listed above and you want to see your data doubled, you’ll need to contact AT&T customer service or go to an AT&T store to switch to the new promotional plan.

Of note, while these new plans are part of a limited-time promotion, the increased data plan sizes do not expire; if you switch to a promotional plan before November, the size of your data bucket will remain doubled until you cancel your service or switch to a new plan.

Each plan still comes with unlimited talk and text, and more information can be found on AT&T’s blog.

I have a 10 GB plan. If I upgrade to a 15 GB plan I get 30 GB for the price that's listed for 15 GB?

yep. you have to switch by oct 31st, the extra data will be valid for life , until you modify your data plan (so don't ever modify your plan)

Yes, but tomorrow you should be able to choose a 30GB plan specifically for $130. And the 30GB is in effect until you change plans.

I usually use between 8.5/9.5GB a month between my three lines. I had been toying with the idea of going to the 15GB plan anyways. I did it this summer when I was traveling and it's about a $23.70 difference to upgrade. Now that it's 30GB, I'll probably do it.

New plans are up. Keep in mind that mine have a 21% discount factored in. I'm even kind of tempted by the 40GB plan but cant imagine that I'd ever use that much. Typically i get to 8.5GB with a week left and then kind of slow down my usage.

I am guessing that there is a marketing research behind where 10 GB is some kind of a threshold for more profit for AT&T. For those who use more than 10 GB regularly it's probably worthwhile but for those who are at near the margin may as well save $20+ a month.

People really use that much data outside of work and home? No wifi at work if you don't have a computer in your office/cubicle or a WAN card in your laptop? Isn't it better to put all this on the company's dime?

I have 6 lines on my account with the 10GB shared plan. We've came close to the limit a couple of times with about a week left in the billing cycle. Sucks being a data miser for the last week or so.

Upped my account to the 30GB plan this AM. I only charge my family members for there line fees up to this point. I've been paying the data pool portion of the bill. I'm just going to divide the increase between the lines to cover the cost.

Thanks OP!

thanks for the headsup... we seem to be creeping and had overages on our old @ss 4GB plan and had just bumped it to 10GB last month. now i bumped it again to their new 30GB......

I will now pay 130 bucks less for their 30GB plan than we were for our 4GB plan two months ago!

These are shared plans; fairly easy to run up a lot of data usage when you have a full family under it. 10GBs split 5 ways is only 2GBs a person.

I have 7 phones on my family share plan so very easy to go over with kids. 2 kids in college and 3 in high school.

7 phones on a 10gb plan works out to less than 1.5gb per phone. 7 phones on the 30gb plan is a little over 4 GB per line.

Considering that the data overage charge is $15/1gb this was pretty much a no brainer for me.

Took all of 2 minutes to switch the plan on line.

They make it easy to take your money.

Saw this thread, and made the move. I was on a 10GB family plan, I have hit that and currently only have 2 smartphones on the plan. My future SUV uses a smartphone for data. This deal was timed perfectly for me.

The data limits and overcharges is the main reason I finally am going to T-Mobile Nov 1 when my contract is over. Already have the sim/wal mart plan box waiting.

Granted I don't talk on the phone. 5 GB for $30 a month? Yes please!

I bit. Switched from Verizon. Data is only going to be a hotter commodity as we go on with time, this is a really good deal in my book.

It's a good deal, but you're making wireless data sound like peak oil or something.

It's the polar opposite. The cost of data in terms of MB/GB/TB/xB per dollar is only going to continue to drop over time.

The only reason "unlimited" data went away is because the larger carriers realized that, like most other industries, they benefit greatly from developing pricing tiers that maximize their margins.

More in a sense I don't see it getting cheaper. The bottom line is getting fat by data consumption. They are running more deals but in general I don't see 30GB/$130 coming around again anytime soon.

I bumped to the 40gb plan because it only amounted to $10/month more for me over the 30gb factoring in my discount, but I'm debating whether or not to bump back down. I pull about 12gb/month over 6 phones on my current 15gb plan. It'd be nice to have some overhead for the future, but that's still $120/year that could go elsewhere. I won't pretend that any this is truly "cheap," but I'm still pretty pumped about the doubling given that I'm going to be with them for the forseeable future anyway. Just not having to watch my consumption is worth it.

Think its worth ditching three unlimited data plans to go up to to a 30GB mobile share plan? Currently paying $240 a month for 4 lines. Going to the mobile share would drop to $210. As a family, we use about 15GB of data a month and I'm constantly getting throttled every month after hitting 5GB..

30GB for cheaper sounds like a no brainer right?

I would if it was me given the ever-shrinking benefit to having an unlimited plan on AT&T. 30gb gives you plenty of overhead. For that matter, you could bump it up to 40gb, still be under your current price, and have the ability to (legally) tether on all those lines.

I've been with T-Mobile for 6+ years and pay about $130 (2 lines w/3GB data for each + all the unlimited stuff) per month.

Would you recommend switching over in getting this deal with AT&T. (On most months, we do go over the 3GB limit and it automatically lowers without any additional charges).

Although I've been happy with T-Mobile all these years, I don't want to pass up on a good deal. :)

Why are you paying $130 ??
For 2 people with 3gb data, it should be $100 + tax- any discount you have.
