Just as an FYI. I signed up with ATT Broadband when they had the 6 months for 19.99 deal when they offerred it. I just ran out of that promotion and just received a call from them. Here's the deal:
If you're willing to commit for a year (and let's face it, once you get on broadband are you really ever going back to dial-up...or heck, if you're on cable, are you ever going to go to DSL?), they'll GIVE you your existing cable modem for free and lower your price to 34.99, which is what it would've been if you had bought the modem.
So basically you get a free modem for committing for a year which I thought was no big deal and it lowers your price to the "not renting a cable modem" price.
From what the lady who called said, they're not supposed to offer this to anybody who has already run out of the 6 months @19.99 promotion because I had asked if I could think about it. So...you may want to call ATT and lower those rates.
PS. Don't know if this matters, but I'm in Salt Lake City, UT.
