Just saw this on news.com. It doesn't look like it has been posted on the new att or sbc yahoo or whatever it's called now page.

AT&T has increased the speed of its broadband service and has struck deals with Starz Entertainment to offer a new video download service and with Yahoo to offer Internet telephony.

On Wednesday, AT&T announced a faster DSL (digital subscriber line) service that boosts downstream speeds to between 3mbps (megabits per second) and 6mbps and upstream speeds to between 384kbps (kilobits per second) and 768kbps for $27.99 per month for customers who sign up online for a 12-month contract.

Kind of bugs me, I've got on the 24.99 3mbps plan and then they lowered it 17.99 and wouldn't let me switch to the lower rate, and now this

Hope this isn't a repost, I didn't search for dsl and didn't see anything

Ive had problems with dsl where I live

it kept going out and verizon customer service sucked.

I am guessing AT&T uses the same lines verizon uses. no?

I would jump all over this but my past experience :-\

I've had Pacific Bell/SBC/AT&T DSL since about 2000. Every year, I find a way to hook into their latest price drop (meant for new customers) and my rates keep going down...Started at $49.99, was down to $16.99) now, upgraded to their "pro" package, and doubled my D/L speed to about 2500kBps...not bad...for $21.99/month...

I'm the same way, I got my pacific bell internet when it was 49.99 and they have been willing to drop my monthy cost everytime a new pricing scale comes out up untill now. I called a month ago to try and get the 17.99 plan and they wouldn't let me do it.

Once nice thing about having the service since the 50 dollar days is that they constantly grandfather my account settings so I still have a static IP.

Might want to check the distance requirements.
When I checked into the ALLTEL 6Mb package it was limited to 1 or 2 miles from the C.O. (not just the DSLAM)

Sucks I can't get that. I used to have Pro (3 Mbps down), and then moved to a different apartment in the same complex (like 250 feet away), and was told I was too far for pro and had to go down to express. :(

Now if only I could *get* DSL here :( Lots of people around me have it, but this stupid house is in a proverbial black hole :| So we're stuck paying $40/month for 3mbps cable.
