http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/31/atandt-and-verizon-are-upping-bandwidth-on-select-data-plans/

These days we could all use a little more mobile bandwidth, and the folks at AT&T and Verizon are giving us some. Let's break it down, shall we? If you're on an AT&T single-line plan or have two to three devices, the company is now offering 3GB of data as opposed to the prior 2GB for $40 per month. And now, the carrier's $70 tier will net you 6GB of bandwidth instead of 4GB. This new allocation starts November 2nd, and as Gigaom points out, the double-data promo for higher-tier plans runs until November 15th. Verizon has a sorta similar deal going, but it's for plans that have higher bandwidth to start. Big Red is bumping its $80 per-month customers from 6GB to 10GB and the previous 10GB, $100 per-month tier is getting a bump to 15GB of data. This is apparently a limited-time offer, but, hey, at least it extends to both new and existing customers starting this Saturday.

So for those of you who were on the 15gb plan and got 30gb, well those of us on lower tier plans like me (2gb) should get a boost also now!

Good news

I signed up for the newer plan to save money, but lost a gig in the process. Glad to be getting that back.

I'm still shocked at how many changes ATT has made recently that actually benefits me. I'm not used to this kind if treatment from a cell provider =P

I wonder if the Verizon Max 6GB @ $30/mo. ppl are getting to 10GB. We're paying $30 only because we gave up our unlimited.

I guess now that they are tracking web habits they want people to use the web on their phones more. ;)

Glad I saw this post. I was about to pick up the phone and sit through useless wait times. Glad to know I can do it online.
Right? It took <2. mins to login and change the plan. Easy, and 1 extra GB is always handy to have.

Incorrect title. Bandwidth is staying the same, but it looks like they are increasing data caps. I clicked thinking they were somehow limiting speeds and were increasing them.

Nice. I got a $5 cheaper plan and got to add unlimited text and talk. Previously I had all my texts going through GV. Additionally if you have a plan older than around feb 2014 I think it'll get you out of your contract.

FYI this doesn't happen automatically (on AT&T). You have to go to your plans, and change your plan to the new one which is at the same price. I guess I get why they didn't just bump up everyone's cap, but at least it's live and now I have an extra gig.

Not only that your cycle date still stays the same, but you start fresh at 0 bytes the minute you change. My billing cycle has 6 days left, and I have 3gb to use. I feel like I can go wild!

I have unlimited data, which I pay less per month for . . . so why should I care about AT&T and Verizon offering a slightly larger pittance?

Lucky you for hanging on to it, but it's not what the majority of consumers have, so you are in the minority.

If you don't care, why do you need to come into a thread to say you don't care? This offer simply does not affect you, so you can move along without trying to belittle other users on the other plans.

Depends on your provider. I dropped my unlimited at AT&T for 30GB. Getting throttled every month after 5GB wasn't "unlimited".

Isn't there a thread here about the FCC/ATT lawsuit regarding that? No need to clog up this thread with that discussion :)

Got a text from verizon saying something to the effect of "want to double your bandwith alotment for free with your same plan, reply with 'yes' ". I thought it was some sort of scam, but it did come from the verizon text service that sends me payment confirmations and such. I'm on the $50 per month 2GB shared plan, I wonder what the deal is, last I read they were doubling the caps for the more expensive plans, not the cheaper ones.

Booo.

I was just complaining to them via chat the other day.
I get employee discount of 30% off, which used to be off of the whole $80, but now only applies to $40 of the $80. So essentially my bill went up $12.

The CSR said, well I can upgrade you to 3gb (from 2gb) for free today. I took the bait and was happy.

I didn't know they were giving it to everyone... 2 months AGO!

:D Oh well...

Haha, that proud feeling when you thought you were able to smooth talked them into giving you something extra, and later on found out that it's a deal available to everyone :p

This reminds me of that AT&T commercial with James Van Der Beek

Great Phone Service but the games they play with what phones you can get.

But part of me wants to support T-Mobile for its because of them this is happening.
