AT pages not downloading completely

Browsing the forums, more than half the time I'm getting incomplete downloads of the pages. Usually, it's just the little icons on the left side of the topics that are missing. A refresh will usually load them. Is this problem unique to my ISP/computer or is something amiss on the AT servers? (Using Win XP Pro, Win XP Home, Win ME : all with IE 6).

Open a DOS window and Ping/tracert the forums, this will give you the answers you are looking for.

Thanks. Good idea. Just pinged 60 packets, no loss. I'll try again the next time I have problems.

I have the same problem and I am pretty sure that IE6 SP1 is at least partially to blame.

Obviously not everyone with IE6 SP1 has this problem but I have yet to encounter someone that did have the problem and didn't have IE6 SP1.

I have to agree with this, before having SP1 on IE6 (WinXP), i never used to have a problem with the net.

Now it seems I suffer incomplete page downloads where im having to hit refresh a few times, and in some cases DNS requests are not even being attempted.

The amount of sites that "Dont seem to work" for me, end up working fine for other people.

Its annoying having to go tracert fr a web address and manually type in the IP everytime

Since my original post, I've tried the Mozilla/Firebird browser. Never had an incomplete download of the site with it. But I do still get the error with my IE6/SP1. Looks like MS broke their browser! Or maybe a setting just needs be tweaked, but which one?

I think I just resolved this problem. I had decreased the temp file buffer to 'only' 500 Mbytes. Today, I increased the buffer to 2.5 GBytes and all AnandTech pages download correctly. Who would ever have thought that those you needed so much space for so little content!
(problem was with IE 6)
