First a little background. I'll try to explain this as clearly as possible.

I purchased and installed with a new build an HD6950 2Gb reference card when they first launched. This card was used with an old Dell 2400 monitor at 1920x1200. A year ago, I decided to do a bit of upgrading and purchased a second monitor (A Dell 27' monitor running at 2560x1440), and a second HD6950 (not a reference card this time). The reference card is a bit longer than the non reference card, and, sadly, I could not fit the reference card in the secondary PCIe slot. This was a major issue because the reference card has no Display Port to run that higher resolution on my new monitor. Long story made short, I few days ago, I rearranged the case and managed to shoehorn that badboy into the second PCIe slot, and of course, moved the newer 6950 to the primary slot. This allowed me to utilize my monitor's full resolution.

But . . .

Upon booting up, and opening catalyst, I found that I no longer had an option for crossfire. In fact, the second card wasn't recognized at all. Thinking that I had bricked my old card, I began the painstaking process of trial and error elimination hardware swapping to discover the issue. Both cards worked fine by themselves, and in the old configuration, but not in the new configuration. A little research found the issue. I used ATi's driver uninstall utility and reinstaled fresh drivers. This allowed the second card to be recognized by the system, and allowed me to finally use the correct resolution with a dual monitor setup.

But . . .

Now I get screen flicker and a strange fuzzy horizontal line that occasionally flashes on the screen. Here's where it gets weird. There appears to be no rhyme nor reason to it. I can reproduce the effects reliably and consistently when visiting http://www.hardforum.com. I also get windows explorer restarts randomly. It only happens on my main monoitor running the display port. It never happens on the second monitor. Also, it happens when drivers are uninstalled completely running on Windows' default drivers. I also get this issue when using an HDMI cable at a lower resolution.

I've tried rolling back drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, and searched endlessly for a similar issue, but all I manage to find are 1 million posts about unlocking shaders. Hopefully someone can offer a little insight on what is going on here.

Made a mistake in my earlier post. I forgot that you cannot have display port, HDMI, and DVI active on the same card. Unplugging Display Port and using HDMI on the primary monitor works just fine. No flickering at all. This means that the issue is solely related to the Display Port on the primary card. I read earlier that the old 5xxx series cards had issues with voltage to the Display Port that could be fixed with a bios flash. Anyone heard of a similar issue with the 6950s?
