So my HTPC and main PC are in separate parts of the house. I often exchange audio and video files between them. I recently had a HD die in the HTPC and replaced it. Now I cant seem to share my new folders on the new HD.

I have another folder on a different HD on the HTPC that I CAN access, and have compared both the security and sharing options between them (in security, I have a "users" account set up). I just cant figure out whats wrong. I can SEE the folders but get a not accessible error when trying to open them.

I took 2 screenshots. The first is my general sharing properties on the HTPC, the second on the top is the settings of the accessible folder the bottom is the inaccessible folder.

Any ideas?

There's two halves to the sharing of files and folders on NT-bases OSes. There's the "sharing permissions", which you seem to have documented, and appear at first glance to be fine to me.

But what about the "filesystem permissions"? Check the "Security" tab.

Was there a password needed for access before? Because you have that unchecked, and I would think that you would want to use that.

Are you using homegroup to share? As you have it selected as well. And has it been configured?

-Checked security tab, it shows all appropriate user names (everyone, users, htpc, and admins)

-There doesnt appear to be a homegroup set up. On the homegroup control panel it says there are no homegroups on the network.

edit: I noticed on my folder I CAN share didnt have users in the security tab so I removed it from the two new folders....I can access them now! I dont understand how that stopped it, but it did.

Thanks for your help guys-
