It is a Gibson but other than that I don't really know much about it other than that it was my Dad's and that it is in pretty good condition.

Serial no 71769512

The tuners are Grover.

Any idea what year it is? What model? What is its approximate value? I'm not looking to sell it but I would like to get it checked out and tuned up and start learning to play it... because I need more hobbies. :p

Yes, pics would probably help huh? :D

Might as well dump it if it wasn't manufactured in the Memphis plant.

It has a Washburn tremolo on it but does not have the tremolo bar, not sure what the pickups are. It was free, to me, and it is in good condition (no cracks or warping, fretboard looks good).

Anyone have any decent amps to recommend (in the $100-200 range)? Should I just plug it in and see if it works or should I have it serviced first? My Dad died 3 years ago and I know he hadn't played it for at least a few years prior. :'( He owned this guitar for quite a long time though and he played it quite a bit. He taught music, had a degree in music, played English Horn in college, conducted, played piano, guitar, bass, drums, if it could make music he could play it.

Made on the 176th day of 1979. Instrument number 12 made that day at the Nashville plant.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure my Dad bought it sometime in the 80s. He had a studio in the back of a music store and was tight with the owner so he was always able to pick up some used instruments here and there. I know he had this one for a while and that he played it quite a bit. It is well worn.

That's definitely a Fender 12 string acoustic bass.

I don't know fuckall about guitars. I have known more than a handful of people that own their own mandolins and banjos and one that owned a real guitar.

I like to talk to people, I have learned quite a bit talking to them and their bandmates when applicable.

I really don't think something like the amplifier or soundboard should be turned off ever. If they become fire hazards one should be able to rip them out and smother them.

On a commercial guitar I personally see the value of knowing where the strings and bridge are at all times is a valuable thing.
