At least 65 killed in R.I. club fire

I went to sleep last night listening to the news reports of this tragedy, and woke to this news. The death toll is climbing.

If you go night clubbing or any public place, this should serve as a reminder, you need to know an escape route in case of an emergency. This is a senseless tagedy. My heart goes out to the families of these victims, who only wanted a good night of rock and roll entertainment. This is very sad.

Damn, weren't there a bunch of people trampled at a club in Chicago just last week?

Won't stop me from going out this weekend or the next, but definitely something to be more conscious of.

Then hopefully something good came from this. Have fun but be safe Chiz.

Man, this is horrible! 🙁 I know it's b/c I'm paranoid as hell, but whenever I go anywhere, I make a mental note of fire exits, stairwells, etc.

The article says the band was Great White. I wonder if it was "the" Great White?

Yep. The same Great White from the '80s, and it looks like they lost their guitarist.

Which begs the question, why the hell were 200 people attending a concert performed by some washed-up band? Never did like Great White.

Well I attend a lot of local clubs and I have seen a lot of pyrotechnics from many different bands. The club owners and the band are complete idiots. Flames going up 7 feet is just dumb especially when the ceilings are so low.

I feel for every family that lost a loved one in this stupidity.

Maybe that's why there was only 200 instead of 300 .

Edit there were 300 people there. Of the 300 people at least 65 of them died and 165 were ijured meaning that 70 or less escaped unharmed. You expect to read about Illegal After Hours clubs or some ratshack club in New Deli having this type of Catastrophe.

''All of a sudden I felt a lot of heat,'' said Jack Russell, the band's lead singer. ''I see the foam's on fire. ... The next thing you know the whole place is in flames.''

He said he started dousing the fire with a water bottle but couldn't put it out, then all the lights went out.

''I just couldn't believe how fast it went up,'' he said. Russell said one of his band members, guitarist Ty Longley, was among the missing.
