I like the clean professional look of fusetalk, and I especially love the no pictures.
This is the only work safe forum worth visiting... and I prefer to keep it that way.

Why disable pictures/sig/avatars? I don't really get why people hate that. As far as the server goes it does not affect the load at all since the pictures are not on the server, but on each individual's servers.

one thing I do hate about the current setup is the inability to post pictures, as well as no custom avatar /image sigs. As long as there are rules put in place as far as sig/picture size goes, I think those should all be enabled. Often sig hight is a problem, so add a restriction like, no more then 120 pixels high, counting text.

Oh, yeah, enabling pics in P&N is one of those brilliant ideas that couldn't possibly go wrong.

vB also has a report post feature. ;) Like anything else inappropriate a moderator can deal with it. If pictures are enabled there should be a size limit maybe though, but I've also seen some forums automatically take care of big pictures and resizing them so that could do the trick.

Embedded pictures are just asking for abuse. How would you like to open a thread at work only to see some jackass made 2g 1c his avatar? Sounds like a fun time for all. Being able to click on any thread here without worry about what you're going to see is a nice thing to have while browsing at work.

i *might* not minds pics if the sizes were limited or resized. TFNN has pics enabled and i dont even go there because the images for avatars and sigs make me want to stab someone, and i dont have ayone here to stab.

Never mind the abuse, simply posting pics within posts looks tacky and MySpace-ish.

I could get behind custom avatars, though; as long as they are size-limited.

We could have a subforum of OT for pictures - that way there could still be funny image threads and the such. Also, the photography forum should have pictures enabled - but I don't know if there's that kind of feature in vBulletin. I guess moderators could do it manually but that'd be hell.

I like how clean AT looks, but I have no problem with images being enabled as long as I can disable them (and just turn them into links or whatever).

I very much oppose custom avatars. There's something very aesthetically pleasing about reading AT, which is pretty much the only reason I still post here.

My opinion:
NO embedded pictures
YES custom avatars, but w/size restrictions, no animated GIFs, and must be SFW/approved by mods
NO graphic sigs

yeah, AT is about the only forum that doesn't assault my eyes. I like the look as is.

But as long as we can get a guarantee that  remains, then I'll be happy enough.

I believe vBulletin can handle image posting restrictions on a forum-by-forum basis.

Moderators can ban people for inappropriate avatars. You personally can disable as many types of images as you want.

So every web page with images of some kind is Myspace? WTF?

I browse other forums at work and have sigs and avatars turned off. We should still be able to have them. My custom AV is familiar to people on the forums I frequent.

And browsing at work is your problem, you should be working.

Embedded pics are fine

Thats the best bet enable them by default just allow users to turn them off at will.

As far as moderation goes it wont put more work as far as innapropriate images go.

Someone could easily make a very offensive text sig in which a moderator would act upon. Only difference is we'll now be dealing with thousands of words (1 image = 1k words :p)
