AT I give up on trying to make no bake cookies, what am I doing wrong?

Are you boiling it long enough on the stove? If you leave too much liquid, they won't solidify.

Also, I recommend playing with the recipe a bit. I made Apple-Cinnamon No Bakes one time, and they were delicious. It's practically like eating some awesome oatmeal! The only problem with adding things like fruit is that the natural juices add even more liquid! :\ I've also made them with strawberries instead of apples.

1. Are you using butter instead of margarine?

2. Have you tried cooling them in the fridge? (to solidify)

3. If you can find it, use coconut oil (solidifies in the fridge)

mom used to make these all the time but i have no idea what her recipe was. i haven't had these in a long time either. they were always good.

I'd up your boil to a few minutes longer and give the oats a chance to absorb more of the milk.

Oh,... I found your problem - from your link;
An easy cookie for kids to make.

You need to hire a baby goat to take care of this one for you. But, I am not so sure how effective they will be,.. what with their constant hopping around.

:hmm:

Also, screw those cookies. Make yourself some no-bake Energy Bites:

The best part is, they are completely customizable. Peanut butter, almond butter, sunbutter. Oatmeal, flaxseed, chia seed. Maple syrup, honey. Dried fruit, shredded coconut, chocolate chips. You can make them taste like granola bars or Almond Joys or do seasonal ones like pumpkin spice. Pinterest has a zillion ideas:

A few varieties: (no-bake)

Peanut butter

Chocolate almond butter

Almond Joys

Pumpkin spice

Nutella hazelnut

Coconut bites

You have to be careful with your self-discipline with them, tho...it's easy to eat 5 or 10 of them instead of one or two...and let me tell you from first-hand experience that consuming large quantities of nut butter and high-fiber oats is not a pleasant combination for your stomach after a few minutes 😀

i was reading the site. seems a lot of diffrent ways to make the stuff.

I try to get as much protein into my kids as i can. My daughter does 20-25 hours of gymnastics a week. She is also very tiny.

Yeah, we have a lot of food allergies in my family (and you know how picky kids can be to begin with), so I took a cue from Seinfeld's wife's "Deceptively Delicious" cookbook where she hides healthy ingredients in meals/desserts & use that as much as possible. We do a lot of smoothies (easy to add protein powder in), ice cream desserts (ice cream, popsicles, fudgesicles, etc.), energy bites, that sort of thing. Like for the fudgesicles, I just do a can of coconut milk, 1/3 can of cocoa powder, 3/4 can of sugar (you can use maple syrup if your kids aren't picky), and a small avocado - just blend it all up & pour it in some popsicle molds:

Sure it has sugar (which you can optionally substitute with maple syrup or whatever other sweetener you like), but it's not corn syrup, there are no preservatives or other funny ingredients, and you're getting a dose of avocado (makes it creamy) & coconut (also makes it creamy), so it's a more balanced treat than something off the store shelves. Plus it'll fatten your kids up with good fat - avocado in the ice cream treats, nut butters in the energy bites, etc., which is an easy way to get them to gain weight if you let them eat their fill of it.

As has been said, substituting ingredients is going to get you in trouble. Are you measuring the ingredients or just going well, that's about right? On no-bakes you're not going to get the results you want without following the recipe.

I have an old, old recipe for chocolate cake (frosting too) that's a scratch recipe. I baked one and brought it in for my co-workers and all the women wanted the recipe. None of them could get it to come out right. When I questioned them, they all had substituted ingredients and many were not measuring anything.
