At high res, AA/AF

At high res, AA/AF is it bandwidth or mem size that matters?

(ie) Would there be a larger benefit with 512mb of 512-bit memory or 1GB of 256-bit memory at high IQ? Or does it depend solely on the bandwidth offered by either solution?

both, check the difference in 8800GT 256 and 512. ATM it seems that 512mb is enough to handle most settings and therefore the limitation lies in GPU speed and memory bandwidth, so 1Gb will not improve performance, on the other hand 256mb definitely limit the performance in high settings. But if 256mb 512-bit memory or 512mb 256-bit memory is fastest I don't know, it probably varies from game to game and setting to setting. But you can compare difference with the HD 3850 and 2900XT as they are quite similar except that the 2900XT has 512-bit bus and the 3850 has 256-bit with same memory size.

both matter... how much depends on both the games it is used with AND the gpu archeticture involved...

So there is really no way for us to answer.
