At equal pricing, which is a better choice, Geforce2MX400 of Geforce256DDR? Why?

Which should be the ideal choice between the Geforce2MX400 and the Older Geforce256 DDR on a Duron 900, Asus KT133 M/B 256MB Ram, monitor only 14". Gaming will be done at 800x600x16 bit resolution. Both cost the same here at $140 each.

I know the Geforce 2 MX200 is beaten by the Geforce DDR, but the MX400 it'd probably be pretty close... I'd suggest going with the newer MX400...

it depends on whether or not you want the 2nd generation T&L system in it...

"Gaming will be done at 800x600x16 bit resolution"

If that's the way you feel, then the Geforce2 MX400 would be the better option. The Geforce DDR card would only be able to score higher fps if the resolution were increased or the color depth was changed to 32 bit.

gf2mx would produce less heat and less noise (you can run them without a fan if you want)...i'd go with it, especially since you probably won't run into any memory bandwidth issues at that low res/color depth

I don't think any Gf2MX's come with fans...a heatsink is more than enough to cool them.

It tends to be manufacturer choice whether they put a fan on or not, most don't but some do. Then there is Creative who put no Heatsink or fan.

I would go for the GF2mx400. May as well get the 64mb if it's not much more although 32mb is fine for 800x600x16.

I would have thought the MX would benefit more from det4's.

A Radeon DDR 64mb VIVO costs roughly $149 (at least that was the price when I purchased it in June). It kills the Geforece2MX400/256DDR in performance and visual quality. Plus it has VIVO capabilities.

I don't know where in India you live, vikash, but chances are the cooler-running MX400 would be better suited for your situation than the hot-running 256DDR. ;)

Heat considerations aside, for the resolution and color depth you are running at, the MX would be the winner.
