Website here.

The box is older but it's sitting on a T-1 so I hope the download speeds are acceptable.

There's a 5.5MB file for testing download speeds (RealAlt 1.02, so it's actually a useful download if you dont have it).

If you have a few seconds, please download the 5.5MB file and post back your average speed (including your method of connection (broadband / dial-up, etc.)

Thanks!

edit = spelling...thanks jumpr

Thanks for the testing. seems pretty consistent so far (I get over 900k on my company T-1, but looking for real world numbers :) )

Thanks everyone. Not too bad for a PII233 on a T1 :)

Everyone else feel free to test it and post your numbers. Any dial-upers?? Would be more intereted in "how many minutes" rather than kbps on dial-up.

Averaging just under 100 kbps just before posting this.

Processor speed doesn't really matter on download speed or static web page serving. Put 1GB or RAM or so in that thing and all the pages will load into memory as their selected by users and it will be almost impossible for anyone to tell the actual processor is that slow. Unless you're doing a lot of server side processing, that P2 233MHz is more than enough for most serving situations.

This box will only handle 512 max RAM, I have 256 in it now, but will double that shortly. Thanks for the reminder though, I forgot it was only at 256 until I read your post.

Thanks for the dial-up report. How long did it take?

Down to 120kbps where it stabilized then upto 150kbps within a few seconds gradually and stayed about there.

Could you tell me what a 233mhz computer on a T1 is going to do? That T1's monthly cost must be higher than the whole system itself :Q

My friend owns the T-1 and said I could put 1 box on it for free. My only spare was this PII 233, I figured I'd slap it on there just for kicks. :) (It's a learning experience...) :)
Plus it's a side of I.T. I don't usually get to mess with. I'm a network admin but all of our websites are hosted elsewhere and I just needed something to experiment with.
