AT Case Mod/Conversion

I expect that this is where all the case "chop-shop" professionals would be reading and posting. Have any of you converted an AT Case to fit a MATX, Mini-ITX, or FATX, motherboard & PSU? If so, please tell me of your experience. How difficult was it? How much did it cost (the conversion that is, not including the new mobo/psu)? What did it involve?

Or should I just breakdown and trash my AT case or by an Epox 3VWB+?

Yes, I acknowledge that there are much easier solutions than modding the case, but I want to do something creative with it, without turning into a terrarium or an ashtray. I have even found myself going to industrial PC vendors and considering PC/104 or SBC solutions...but I digress.

Yeah, i modded a SuperMicro AT tower case to take an ATX board.

All I did was cut out a rectangle for the ATX connectors on the backplate, and swap the clunk-click power button for a momentary switch, and everything else fitted in in the same holes/slots :)

Oh, and Welcome! to Anandtech forums :D Hope you enjoy your stay here :) Feel free to pop into the Distributed Computing and pick a projetc that interests you to use your unused CPU cycles and help out a project and Team Anandtech :)

I Modded my friends PC from AT to ATX, all you need is to replace the power supply and get an Momentary ATX Switch. You might have a little trouble mounting the switch but with a little creativity you can get it to fit. One question though, are you satisfied with your current case? Good Air Flow, Drive Capacity?

yes, considering the high price of separate power supplies, your pratically buying a new case already:p is the at worth saving? must be gold plated or something;)

What I like about this case (and miss with my newer one) is how light it is. I could almost play volleyball with it (chalk that one under the terrarium/ashtray list :) ). Is it worth it to spend the time, effort and money to update it? If I can succeed in making it unique and giving it a new lease on life, then yes. Since I have never actually done a case mod yet, I wanted a place to start before I started buying tools and taking metal shop classes at the community college :).

Thank you, Confused, for the welcome. I have been meaning to dive in to the forums for a while now, as Anandtech is the first site I check in the morning, on break, at lunch, afternoon break, after work, and before bed :). Best all-around H/W site on the net, bar none.

Thanks everyone for the input...Dogberry now has a mission.
