At a traffic light when it's red, do you look at the other direction color to anticipate the change?

Just curious -- do you look? I always have, particularly since I used to drive a stick, and I would always put it into gear before it turned green. Now that I have an automatic, it's still a habit.

Of course, I don't know anyone who doesn't.

You've never sat behind someone for a split second and become raging mad because they haven't moved yet?? 🙂

That is SO me.

And I always look at the other light. I drive a stick, too.

Don't you hate it when the glare prevents you from seeing? Or when they have those stupid little vanes on the lights to block anything from direct viewing?

Of course, here in Okinawa, if you go right at green, you'll probably have an accident. It's called the 1-2-3 rule -- when the light turns red, you still have 3 seconds to go. 😀

In the UK - for those that don't know - the lights go the other way (from red to yellow to green). I love this. If they did that here, we wouldn't fvck around so much at the lights like we do now.

It's good that most members here are always fully aware of their surroundings even when stopped. Too bad this doesn't represent the average population out there on the road.

My ex-gf was aware, she just didn't care. "I have the right-away"...

Some guy blew through a red light and tore off my front bumper, so now I look left to watch the signal, but also to watch for somebody running the light. Oh yeah, he was talking on his cell phone.

I even watch for a colored glare as I approach the intersection so I can time it right so I don't have to stop or even slow down much. But yes, I always watch the other green light to see what it's going to change.

same deal here in india. from go to stop its green->yellow->red

from stop to go its red -> red+yellow -> green.

and there are countdown timers that tell you how long the current status will be for, so you can turn off your engine if you want at longer lights

that is why they are putting up those new lights that you can only see at certain angles. to prevent people from anticipating the light changes.

and yes i do it too.

I do but I also watch the other traffic around me. I am not one of these idiots that just watch the light and bolt out once the light is green almost getting into a wreck because the other asshat was watching the light turn yellow then red going through the intersection.

You can do it all the time you just need to be on the look out for the other crappy drivers on the road. IE everyone else other then me because I am the SH!T when it comes to driving 😀

As a rule I always wait a count of three or four before I enter an intersection after the light has changed.
Three or four years ago, I was sitting at a red light. The light changed and for some reason I waited a half a second before I put my car in gear. It is a good thing I did because this 18 wheeler loaded with steel rods ran the red light. If I have been in a hurry I would be dead right now.
