At 24 - Too Old To Take Up Skateboarding?

I have a strange desire to take up skateboarding. I was thinking about buying a board and going to a skatepark today.

But I don't want to be 3/2 the size of everyone else there, and get laughed at by a bunch of a 12 year olds. 😱

There's lots of older people that get into skate boarding. I wouldn't plan on going pro but to just do it for fun, there's no problem with that.

But start slow, wear your pads, etc. ANd find someone to teach you.

If you are serious.. GL, because the 12, 13, 14, 15 year olds are going to be ragging you for being a poser. I would not do it. It is dangerous at any age, but 24.... well, its a lot easier to break bones.

How about mountain biking or something/

my buddy is 24 and he just started. Took him about 2 trips to get it down, but he is pretty decent now considering. He usually does Blue trails now.

Opps, read this as "snow"boarding n/m...

I started when I was like 12, broke both my ankles in 1 fall a few years later. That ended me right there. But Camp Woodward was fvckin' sweet... 😀

Not too old, but probably too big. Skating really requires that you be as thin as possible. When I was in my skating prime, I weighed 150 lbs at 6'2". Look at Tony Hawk, he's still built like that at 38 years old.

The toughest part is that you'd have to associate with other Skaterboarders who for the most part are 14-16 year old males, probably most inane demographic of American Society followed closely by 14-16 year old girls.

no pads... u learn by getting hurt. skate or die broooooo

jk jk... nah, give it a shot. i wouldnt do it in a park until you can do an olie. practice in your driveway.

I have been skating for 20 years and would recommend you stay away from the park, for now. Find a secluded spot to kick around and learn how to ollie at the very least before going to a park. Im not "that old" and im an OK skater, but would probably get ridiculed with "broken hip" jokes.

stay away from half pipe at that age. your body isn't ready to pick up right away.

you'll suffer more injuries. go snowboarding instead.

Its not too late. In fact John Wayne Gacy took up skateboarding at a late age as a wonderful way to meet young people.

😉

he's already on ATOT

My buddy is a social worker and skates with his clients (kids) all the time. He's nearing 30, and he's not the best skater in the world by any means. But he hasn't broken any bones. Just be safe and don't try anything stupid (like the half pipe).
