I'm curious to see if anyone can comment on how the battery life of the zenbook prime ux31a changes if you go with the slower i5 model rather than the i7 model?

Also do you guys think the IPS screen is worth the 2 hours less daily battery use it gets compared to the Samsung series 9 13inch which has a TN 1600x900 screen?

What? Which review shows the Series 9 getting that much better battery? It's true for UX21A, because its smaller, but the UX31A has a bigger battery than the Series 9.

Also if you are opting for the Series 9, you might as well get the i3, since their Ultrabooks don't go even a bit over the base clock.

That's a 15" Samsung as well. I'm not sure where the 2hr difference was mentioned, but it seems like there's a difference. That said I think a higher quality screen is very worth it. Especially since most of the reviews say the Series 9 screen isn't great in general, let alone compared to a nice IPS display. For the cost it seems like a big misstep on Samsung's part.

Engadget shows the series 9 getting 7+ hours with wifi browsing and mid screen brightness.

THe majority of reviewers for the ux31a I've read seem to show around 5.5 to 6 hours of wifi browsing use. However, they all use the more expensive processor. I'm curious how the lower performing one does in terms of battery life.

If the lower processor doesn't do any better, my question is, is the 1080p IPS screen worth the almost 2 hours less it gets compared to the series 9? The series 9 doesn't have an IPS screen but it has apparently a decent 1600x900 matte screen.

Just wanted to get people's thoughts on which of these laptops they think is the better buy.

I do not think in real life you will see 7+ hours out of anything other than a mac pro/air.
I suggest you go to a retailer and play with both models and get the one that looks and feels best for you. Play with the keyboard and track-pad.
With that said, I personally prefer Lenovo's.

Ok, so we need some clarification.

-The battery capacity is widely different between Series 9 models. The non-Ivy Bridge 13-inch models have 40WHr battery while the Ivy Bridge one gets 44WHr one. The 15-inch Series 9 has a much larger 62WHr. In comparison, the UX31/31A models have 50WHr
-Ivy Bridge is showing better battery life, in the order of about 30 mins
-Part of reason the Series 9 is better than the Zenbooks for battery life is because only base clock is used when on battery. Maybe its also due to engineering and even the screen.
