Asus Z97 Sabertooth

Hi Everyone,

On Sunday I updated my PC with an i5-4690k & Asus Z97 Sabertooth mark 2 combo. Went through the installation and update with minimal issues. 24 hours later while playing a PC game, the rig hit a blue screen of death and crashed. Computer currently will not reboot or get to BIOS.

The mobo only has onboard HDMI/display which makes troubleshooting difficult as both of my monitors are VGA, and I must run an HDMI out to my living room TV.

Specs:

EVGA Gtx760
Asus Z97 Sabetooth Mark 2
Intel i5- 4690k (Stock fan, no overclocking)
G skill 2x8 ddr3 1600
kingston 120gb
1tb HDD

Troubleshooting so far:
- Bios updated to current version after install Sunday.
- All chipset and graphics cards drivers updated.
- Unplugged and replugged all components.
- Case standoffs in correct position, no shorts on board to case.
- Pulled GPU and ran the mobo directly through HDMI to a TV, still no output. (No VGA on the mobo card)
- Reseated ram, no issues with mobo passing ram verification test (Mem OK! blinker).
- Cleared the CMOS via switching the jumpers and by pulling the battery for reset.

At this time, the PC fires up and sounds like it's booted normally, but has no display.

Thanks for the quick reply. The PSU is a CX750m by corsair. I'm almost certain the PSU isn't the issue, as it was replaced (through microcenter) with a brand new one on Saturday.

Before the crash, I was running windows 7 on this PC.

I just unplugged the HDD / SSD and tested the mobo/cpu/RAM under two setups:

Setup 1: GPU attached, no display coming out of the VGA ports in the GPU.

Setup 2: GPU out, tested output signal from the MOBO's HDMI port. No display either.

In both setups above I tested the ram in different configurations and settings.
 
OK. You might want to pull the dump file off the drive and use your other computer to see what they are pointing to.

You covered about everything I can think of, short of pulling it out of the case, so maybe software can give us a hint.
 
I can pull the SSD that my OS is loaded onto and hook it up to another PC to pull the dump file. Is there a specific directory where the dump file would be stored?

I even swapped out the MOBO for a new one today, as my troubleshooting was pointing to a CPU socket issue, but that wasn't the problem. Still having the same issue.
 
Wow, ok, good, ruled out the board. Hope it's not the CPU. Are you sure all the motherboard power connections are in place?

Minidump files are in C:Windows\Minidump.
 
All of the connections are in place.

If it's not the board, PSU, or RAM, it's got to be the CPU. No other reason why it wouldn't at least post. I'll pull the dump file tonight and see what I can find, but I'm probably going to have to make a trek back to FRY's tonight to exchange this CPU.
 
The fact that Fry's is somewhat close should be some comfort at least. The closest thing to me is a Tiger Direct, and they are a good hour away.
 
No luck pulling the dump file off the PC, it wasn't recorded. I'm out of idea's on this build honestly. This is beyond frustrating.

I purchased a display port to DVI adapter to test out the mobo's default output, but that isn't providing any output display either. At this point, it has to be the CPU, I'll swap it out this PM and provide an update.

Just to wrap up this thread. Swapped the CPU, still having on and off issues with stability... but the pc posts and loads to windows.
 
CPU eh? Glad it is (at least somewhat) better. What are your CPU temps like? What are current issues like?
