My beloved 5870 just died and I'm forced to fall back to integrated while I decide what to buy.

However, I immediately hit a problem: the DVI and HDMI jacks only support 1920x1200 as per ASUS web site.
Is there a hack available that would allow me to run 2560x1440, even if refresh Hz is lower?

HACK! Yes, buy a 290/X (Preferably under Water) and a QINX Dvi-D ONLY Display for a 4K 1440p Res with a descent Dvi-D cable and run the display at 96Hz+.

HDMI although Multi-Display friendly, presently does no go over 60Hz.
Can't say 60Hz isn't suitable at 4K Res for most enthusiasts., but you have the platform with an ASUS P8 Z77/ i7 2600k to go beyond.

-------------------

PS: Suggest an XFX BEFX KM3 750W Black Edition PSU - Don't care about the DRAM but if you can run it at 1600 to 1866MHz @ Cas 9 1T at under 1.5v all the better.

With that said (I hate that expression). Use a Corsair H110 on the CPU and you should easily run the CPU between 1600Mhz/4600Mhz's hitting 5 Ghz's and the Hawaii at 1105 x1500Mhz under water with a Koolance 401X's2 and a couple of Coolgate Rads with Nouctia Fans under Water.

You have a FAST 4K Platform - Just a little more money ;o)

MONEY - MONEY.

Intel motherboards only do single link dvi, only way to do 2560x1440 60hz is displayport, most boards don't have that though.

maybe you could try a custom resolution, starting at 2560x1440 at 30hz, and work your way up. Might need to use the CRU tool if the intel driver doesn't allow it.

Intel driver allows it, but nothing happens. The resolution just stays 1920x1080. Seems there's nothing I can do but buy a new GFX card, even if it is the cheapest available.

That I know of there isn't a way to output 1440p. Why can't you stay on 1080p until you get the new gpu?

I can, but it's ridiculous. I didn't buy a $200 MB and a $ 300 CPU to be unable to enjoy something as simple as a 1440p resolution. It's ridiculous and something I definitely didn't expect.
