I submitted an RMA to Newegg and would like to cancel it if I can get it fixed.

I7 & Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3

This is what I get every time I click in advanced bios settings: http://i.imgur.com/VBNIm.png

It started off like so (to the best of my knowledge)
EZ bios settings
Normal 3.5Ghz
Asus optimal 3.8 Ghz

Not knowing how to overclock I flipped the TPU switch - 4.4 Ghz Not likeing the voltage and being in unfamiliar territory I turned off the TPU switch and tried a manual overclock following a guide.

Didnt like those settings (BSOD) I reverted to default settings, but now its like the bios remembered my tweaks and if I click:

Asus optimal --> advanced --> it shows target speed 3.8 Ghz.

I save and apply and when my computer boots up im back to 4.4 Ghz

Going into advanced bios it says manual (changes) - 4.4 Ghz etc. (Shown in pic)

I removed cmos battery, reset bios switches, deleted all asus mobo software, reflashed bios and its still doing it.

I can choose normal settings in EZ bios and its fine 3.5 ghz, it only messes up when I click asus optimal and click into the advanced bios.

Its like windows is booting up and telling it to revert back to a particular setting if thats possible

This is probably confusing, and I am sorry for not being very technical but I would love to figure this out before I send off my RMA.

I see your problem its set at 43(by all cores) so will overclock to 43x100 ie 4.3Ghz or so,adjust that to 35 which will give you 3.5Ghz or whatever target figure you need ie 33x for 3.3Ghz etc...

By All Cores: This sets the CPU core frequency multiplier; multiplied by BCLK to give the target CPU frequency (under full load conditions if SpeedStep is active). “Auto”: Stock CPU multiplier Ratio used. Manual numerical entry of the desired Turbo Ratio is accepted.

this guide might help you ,http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?2453-P67-Z68-BIOS-Guide-BASIC-Intermediate-Overclocking .

Understood, but if I change everything to auto, and save it will revert back to this regardless if I ever click "asus optimal" Is "Asus optimal" ever supposed to put you that high? I though it would simply put you upto 3.8 ghz... not 4.5 on manual settings.. Seems like there is a bug in the bios or something... Newegg is more than happy to RMA.. its not a huge deal, but I just dont like it.

no you thought wrong
Your mobo working fine
Intel CPU has IN it turbo mode - comes on the die
The 2500K and 2600K are stock at 3300 and 3400
Intel turbo (set in bios) will auto give you 3700 and 3800 overclock. There are tons of adjustments for turbo mode in bios - what a waste of time and effort.
If you do any non stock alterations like TPU switch (or optimal) the turbo mode is greyed out
Your best bet is the TPU switch - flip it up and reboot coupla times and it will find a workable O/C for you (like arttficial intelligence). 43 is fine - you could prob go to 47
Dont touch anything on EZ page.
Thats what the TPU switch is for - guys like you with no knowledge of SB overclocking (Dont use EPU switch)
Depending on what C states you employ in bios the overclock will either stay that way 24/7 or idle at 1600 until the cpu is being utilized - best situation
You are going to have to spend some time on the various forums to get hip to all the ins and outs.
There is a tremendous learning curve on the P67 Z68 X79 mobo - no way around it.
