Hey all, I finally took the plunge and upgraded my Core 2 Quad system to Skylake. Or so I thought...

I have this waterblock:
http://www.swiftech.com/apogeext.aspx

This backplate:
http://www.swiftech.com/Socket1155BP.aspx

Trying to fit it to this motherboard:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z170-A/

However, the backplate simply will not fit. I can get two of the four taps into the motherboard holes, but then the remaining are about half a millimetre off. Applying a moderate amount of force doesn't help. I haven't tried attaching the waterblock, I guess I'll damage the motherboard if the backplate isn't seated correctly?

Tips would be appreciated, as I'd rather not have to go back to my old P5K motherboard. I guess the white pads on the backplate should not be removed? Would a different backplate work or does it have to be this model?

You know that the motherboard holes for mounting S775 heatsinks are different than those for mounting 1156/1155/1150/1151, right?

Is it supposed to fit the 1151 board or not?

You need to research that first.

Thanks for your input, guys. Yes, I used a different backplate (X-shaped) for my P5K motherboard.

The backplate should fit... it's 75mm the same as 115x sockets

i've used the same backplate on Z170 boards and they worked fine

All 115x sockets share 75mm hole spacing, afaik, in other words, LGA 1156, 1155, 1150, and 1151 should all be dimensionally equal as far as heatsink retention, though there are some caveats with LGA 1151 in regards to retention pressures.
