Asus Xonar Essence ST PCI sound card

...Not even being used at the moment, replaced by onboard MB sound...

For our gaming PC, we have the above card, M-Audio AV40 powered speakers (2.0), and the Sennheiser headset (when wife complains of the Battlefield 4 noises).

On and off since I bought this sound card (Nov 2011), it would randomly, every few months, simply disappear... as if it was never installed...gone from device manager... to the Gulag I guess.

Tried different drivers, uninstalled/re-installed, removed from MB slot then put back in...it would work again, only continue happening periodically. And it wasn't always the same solution that temp cured it.... so frustrating I finally just yanked it out.

Any ideas? I'd like to use the sound card.

Thx for that link.

But yesterday, I removed the power supply cable from the power supply and then re-inserted. Then, the card was recognized and was able to install the latest Asus/Xonar drivers... it worked.

So for now, if this continues, I'll leave well enough alone!
