Even if you don't currently need it, for $14 its would make a great back-up card.

This isn't much better than onboard. but good for when the onboard blows up, which happens.

Or for people with really dirty power coming into the house. this should clean up the audio a bit with those decoupling caps.

I've heard the sound is quite good, but the DG does NOT support dolby digital encoding, so no 5.1 game sounds out the digital outputs like the DX and D1 support. I want an all digital connection, so its a no go for me.

The headphone amp is VERY sensitive to power surges in these. I've had 3 that went out after a storm before, surge protector or not.. You can replace them..i think..but its not worth the effort for the price of shipping.

This is better than the xtreme gamer if you use headphones by far. However i would not recommend any of them over onboard sound now-a-days.

For $14 I am in, I have a setup which requires optical out but the motherboard does not have it. This solves the dilemma with much less work than buying a new mobo :)

I am running a DG and I mainly use headphones. I also have the ALC898 codec on the motherboard. Am I better off sticking with the DG?

The optical out is a pass through, this card does NOT support encoding game sounds etc. for output, only the DX and D1 have that. (at least multi channel, not sure about mix to stereo).

Just a semi-educated guess, but I'd say that, unless that ALC898 has Dolby Home Theater support, the DG would most likely be superior for headphones.

Oh yeah, I am just looking for pass through to a receiver. Thanks though :)

Someday I'll be in the market for 5.1 encode, but not today!
