ASUS X99-E dual 12v CPU plugs. Do I have to use both ?

It has an 8 pin and a 4 pin CPU power plug. The only PSU I have that has 2 CPU plugs are my AX1200's, but I want to test this new CPU first, an E5-2695v3. I checked the manual and it just looks like both have to be used.

Any ideas as to whether I can leave the 4 pin off, just for testing ?

Thanks, I tried it, and memory slot D1 does not recognise the ram, I switched C1 and D1, and D1 both times sees no memory, so I returned it and got the ASRock Taichi.

BTW, do you think that ES chips can be overclocked ? Xeon E5-2695v3. I know on socket 2011 my 3930K could be, but this is socket 2011-3 and a Xeon, but an ES

Unfortunately I have had no experience with Xeon CPUs, so no idea on that.

I found this thread if it helps at all:

ASRock X399 Taichi, my PSU comes with both cables, I suspect that they are ALL wired in and it doesn't matter if you use them both, Maybe less stress on the header? The manual on the Tachi says to "PLEASE" plug it in. So, I wasn't sure, but like I said, it's not going to fry anything. Since both ports are wired for the same 12 volt on the board. Like other have said, if you are overclocking the chip than maybe the board might pull extra current so all that current doesn't have to go through one port, maybe it might be cooler? Who knows...?
