Team,

I have recently purchased the Asus X800xt vcard. It already has a fan and heatsink setup built in. My temps are around 50c idle and about 65c on load. Im just concerned of the lifespan of the card amd more importantly the quality of the card at those temps.

Below are my questions:

1. Are These temps normal temps?
2. Is there a need to purchase an aftermarket cooling system, ATI Silencer 4?
3. If so, i would need to remove the standard cooling system and replace with ATIs, correct?

Thanks

I have an Asus X800XT PE with a Silencer on it. 37 at idle, 47 after 15 minutes of UT2004.

I also have a Thermaltake Xaser III case with seven 80mm fans though. Cooling your case is pretty important, especially when you're not exhausting heat.

Rollo,

Those temps are pretty good.

My question, did you have to remove the factory cooling system?

I checked out the ati cooling unit - and it looks fairly similar...basically what im saying is i dont want to loose the blue light that beams out of the card :p but its gonna decrease the temp to low 40s then i guess i have to bite the bullet.

So you would recommend ripping off the one on the unit and replacing with the AC Ati silencer 4 unit.

Also i have
x1 8cm intake,
x1 12cm intake and
x1 12cm exghust

Thanks

It looks similar because it's not mounted. The Silencer faces the oposite way on your card, taking up the second slot. You have to leave the slot cover off, as it exhausts the air warmed by your gpu out the back of your case into the room. The stock hsf blows it back into the case, making it part of your heat problem.

You will void your warranty to add this, I don't know how hard they are to mount as I bought my card used with it installed.

The fact that it exghusts hot out of the case, rather than around it, makes it very appealing upgrade.

Thanks for the reply.

P.s 7 fans in your case? Doesnt it get abit too loud? Are they all intake or exghust or combination and where are they all placed?

No problem, happy to help.

My case

It's a combination of intake/exhaust, 2 front, 2 side, 2 back, 1 top. It's the only case THG gave a "10" rating for cooling in this review of the 24 best cases last spring. It's not very loud, the fans are supposedly "Tt ultra silent fans".

It is one of the most loved/hated cases around though- "fugly ricer junk" gets thrown at it a lot by those who think they're too flashy. (personally I've seen much flashier, but to each their own)

Wow! Big difference in playing online in heated battle for a while- got up to 57! Maybe the case/fan don't help that much after all.

mine is almost the same on load, reported by atitool. both stock and overclocked (585/585) is pretty much the same. no volt mods and stock cooling.
