ASUS X38 Maximus Formula and Ram

I have just ordered a new computer with an ASUS X38 Maximus Formula MB. While waiting for it I seen some Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz 240-pin DDR2 Memory on sale and bought it. After all the MB spec said it used PC2-6400 800 MHz sticks. Now I hear talk that the memory might not work on this MB...what the hey? Is this true? The actual part number on the memory is BL12864AA804.8FE5. Have I wasted $30.00?

It can be hit or miss w/ that memory, crucial says it doesn't work / isn't compatible and doesn't support it. I've personaly run into this issue w/ the 2gb versions of the Ballistix. older Ballistix w/ the lower density chips like bl12864aa1065.16D5, for example, would work fine but tended to die prematurely and the new higher density Ballistix just doesn't play nice w/ this board in many cases.

I learned I first needed to make sure I have the latest Bios rev. What I need to know is if I try the sticks do I risk damaging the MB? The system is coming with 1GB of something. Can I use the three together if the Ballistix works. If so, does the order matter? Or do I need to kind a single stick of the Ballistix to get my 3GB's?
