I am using the Asus X-99 Deluxe motherboard in a new build and I have the need for three USB 2.0 connectors. This motherboard, however, only has two. Is there a way to increase the number of USB 2.0 connectors inside the case? Thank you for any comments.

Specs and pics for your Asus X-99 Deluxe show 2 x USB 2.0 and 10 USB 3.0 connectors (the ones with the blue insert) on the rear panel plus 2 x USB 3.0 connectors and 2 x USB 3.0 connectors supporting 4 additional USB 3.0 4 USB 2.0 ports to connect to other ports on your case.

USB 3.0 ports are backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, but they will only perform at USB 2.0 speed. Similarly, you can plug USB 3.0 devices into a USB 2.0 port, but they will only operate at USB 2.0 speed.

How many USB ports do you need?

I need three internal USB 2.0 ports. On the front of my case I have four 2.0 USB ports, two USB 3.0 ports and one SD card reader. The USB 2.0 cables took up both internally available USB 2.0 connectors. I need one more internally for the card reader which is currently unconnected.

I have one USB 3.0 connector available on the motherboard. Can I plug the USB 2.0 cable into the USB 3.0 connector? Is that what you are suggesting?
