ASUS WLAN adapter

OK, so I want to use the Wi-fi on my motherboard to connect to the internet through the router. I don't know much about networking, but I think I'm on the right track, I have just run into a problem.

When I download and install the latest drivers and software from ASUS, and I run the Wifi ap Solo, it opens for a split second and then closes. When I hover my mouse over the icon in the tray, it tells me that the WLAN adapter is not installed, but it is plugged in and set up.

When I look in device manager, I don't see it listed, but there are 3 things listed under network devices, and none of them look like what I'm looking for.

I've googled this, and I find a lot of other people who have the same problem, but none of them post what solved the issue, or they just gave up and moved on.

I'm running XP SP3, and I have not tried the adapter before now.

I know next to nothing about networking, so I'm hoping you guys can help me.

Also, I don't know if this is more of a networking question, or a hardware question. Move it if you like.

Well, if you are sure that the Card is On in the BIOS, and you are using the right drivers, it might be that the onboard card is Bad.

However it is hard to feel sc** when a good PCI card cost less than $20.

Ok, I didn't realize they were so cheap. I was trying to avoid spending any money, but $20 is pretty reasonable. I suppose I would rather pay the money than fight with the onboard.
