Asus WL520GU won't access WAN (2/3's solved)

Got this router today. The WAN light lights up and flashes but I can't access my modem or internet through it. The the setup for the default firmware keeps telling me to plug in the cable, and Tomato and DD-WRT can't access anything either. Also tried a new cable but no go. Anything else to try before giving up?

I should probably add that the router never shows a WAN IP address when plugged into the modem.

Many DSL and Cable systems need the logon credentials configured in the WAN menu.

Cable modems "lock" to the MAC of router (or computer) connect to it. Power cycle the cable modem and it will connect to the MAC of the new router.

Thanks guys. I just figured out that's what was getting me. Both the stock firmware and DD-WRT work, but I was spending most of my time on Tomato and that just absolutely refuses to.
