Anybody here buy the wi-fi addon for asus motherboards yet? I want an AP for my dorm room and don't want to spend a lot of money,...I found this adapter for 25 online and just wanted to know if it was worth the mmoney. I have a P4P8X but they are available for models above this as well.

I've been playing with this unit, and the P4P800S Wireless mobo, for a little while now, and because of problems with my choice of wireless laptop cards, can't really answer yet. The ASUS unit is really cool, very capable and comes with an excellent manual. The choices of operating mode are many, and the installation is exceptionally smooth and the wizards helpful. My problems lie with an older laptop and a card that needed a newer OS, which took a while to accomplish. This coming weekend I should have time to get the bugs ironed out, and will then be able to talk a bit about range and wireless speed. Overall, I'm really impressed with the whole ASUS package, good mobo if you can live without dual channel memory, solid and certainly priced right. The wireless card almost seems like a giant bonus.

:) Thanks, I think i'm going to buy it over a stand alone AP then. When you get all the bugs worked out can you lmk if the system slows down at all with the AP software running in the BG? or is it all hardware? Thanks.

I actually have the ASUS part running all the time, and so far no slowdown, no indication it's even there. Admittedly, I have no other connections drawing on it, but given the hardware on this mobo, I really don't think that will be much of an issue.

After living with this setup for more than a month now, I'm more than happy. Using the ASUS mobo as my main computer for work, the stability and speed are awesome. The wireless activity produces no effect at all on daily use, when my wife is using the internet from her laptop, utilizing the wifi setup from ASUS, I see no difference than when it's not being used. The range seems to be pretty good, using it around the (very large) yard, she hasn't run into any difficulty. Next I want to buy a wireless pci card, probably another ASUS, and install it my shop computer configured to connect to the original Access Point, and see how it works just sitting there, as compared to my wired network. I suspect I will become impatient with the transfer speeds, but want to try it anyway.
